Default Sandwich in air fryer

I just did a sandwich of turkey and Swiss on sourdough rounds. I buttered
both sides of the bread. Tastes great but the piece of bread on top didn't
brown. Should I have flipped it as it cooked? Browned that piece first?

Thanks!

If the bottom slice browned then, yes,
you should have flipped it during cooking.

Personally, it sounds like that might have been better
just cooked in a frying pan like a grilled cheese sandwich.

You could also just toast the bread first, add the turkey
and swiss then microwave it for about a minute or so to
heat up the meat and melt the cheese. If you wanted butter
(or mayo) spread that on the inside of the toast before
heating in microwave.

well the question now becomes if it tasted great then where was the
malfunction?

Ding ding ding! I don't see the point in using an air fryer to make
this sandwich.

The microwave method is no good. Makes for a bad texture.

The sandwich was actually good! The top piece was toasted. Just not brown.

It was quick and smaller/easier to clean than a pan.

The one piece wasn't browned.

Me neither... if I wanted nicely browned bread I own a toaster.

Bullshit. When you use an air fryer you have to clean out the basket and
the base. When you use a pan you just clean the pan.

If she had a small non-stick skillet the clean-up would be even simpler.

Yes but my pan is large and heavy and because it's been abused, stuff sticks
to it now. So it's hard to clean. The air fryer is small and light. No
scrubbing.

This wasn't toasted though. More like grilled.

Of course not. It would be one of the simplest and cheapest solutions.

I never doubted for a minute that you don't have one or that you'd be
interested in buying one.

The microwave method is no good. Makes for a bad texture.

The sandwich was actually good! The top piece was toasted. Just not brown.

I cook my toasted sandwiches in the air fryer too. I use butter or mayo
on the outsides.

I keep a close eye on it when it's cooking. I always turn mine over
when the top looks done and then the ' new top' always cooks faster.

No it wouldn't. Why buy another pan? I don't need it.

The air fryer was not invented for you to mis-use. You will NEVER have any luck with it.
