If the bottom slice browned then, yes,
you should have flipped it during cooking.

Personally, it sounds like that might have been better
just cooked in a frying pan like a grilled cheese sandwich.

You could also just toast the bread first, add the turkey
and swiss then microwave it for about a minute or so to
heat up the meat and melt the cheese. If you wanted butter
(or mayo) spread that on the inside of the toast before
heating in microwave.
