There is a house about a mile and a half town the road from me in the
residential area that always has at least one stock car in the driveway.
The garage is for the other pieces of scrap he is turning in to stock cars.

What did you do? They can actually gain the rights to your property
if you don't make some sort of a legal note of their encroachment.

A lot of people do that, so much so that they have banned watering after a
rain here now, but the homeowners are supposedly worried about acid type
rain sitting on their yards. LOL

A man who lives about a block away owns some sort of a construction
company and is always parking the (very nice looking) trailer he uses
to carry equipment to job sites on city streets. He can obviously
afford to pay for off street parking (plus it would be a business
deduction), but he chooses not to. Local law says that vehicles can't
park on the street more than 3 days in one location. He knows the law
and moves the vehicle on the third day, but it doesn't make him any
less despicable in my book.

We used to have a jackass neighbour who knew all about squatters rights.
He was a farmer with a several parcels of land along this street and at
one time had 6 lawsuits going with neighbours. He would plant trees
right up to and sometimes over the property line. After the requisite
number of years he would go to court and try to claim the land that he
had been working.

He tried it on me but it never got to court. He had trees planted right
up to the line. I had cut down some trees and left the trunks piled
along the property line for a while. Later on, after I had removed them
he was disking his orchard and coming across my property. I went out and
hammered in some stakes with an axe. He just ran right over them. When I
stood in front of his tractor he yelled at me to get out of the way or
he would run me over. He then popped the clutch. I had the axe in my
hand. The axe was swung... at the tractor. He called the police and
wanted me charged with attempted murder. When the police heard my side
of the story he was the one who got the warning. The best part of the
encounter was there was no a police record of me keeping him off my
property so any hops of claiming that strip of land were dashed and I
was a hero to the other neighbours.

I certainly would NOT. I wouldn't even consider buying in a

Best story I ever heard about that was from one of my professors whose
stories were very credible. A friend of his had built a fence along
the property line. His neighbour complained because a by law required
the fence to be a certain distance in from the property line.

His revenge was to move the fence quite a bit further than he had to.
He new the neighbour was planning to build something. He waited until
the building was finished. It seems that the neighbour had made an
assumption about the property line based on the location of the fence,
but had actually built it extending onto the friend's property. When
the building was finished he went to the city to complain about his
being partly on his property and the guy had to tear it down. He got
the last laugh on that one.

I think all cities do that - it's for fire prevention.

They should plow the streets as a basic city service, are you saying
they plow driveways?

Honestly, Carol - I think the only time she uses Amazon is for
groceries. She uses Swagbucks for everything else, including as a
search engine.

That's us. Husband has allergies/asthma. Keeping the allergens
out and the humidity down helps him a lot.

I've become a total wuss about the heat. Air-conditioned house,
car, and office. I never get used to the heat anymore.

Yes, people with breathing issues have a hard time with heat.

I'll bet there is a bus load of ******* lawyers who would gladly take
the water department to court for "waiting until next week" to start
digging up that leaking pipe. That is unsatisfactory. I bet the state
would pull their permit to sell water if you let them know the idiots
told you they can't start until next week. Tell them you want to see a
backhoe out there digging NOW!

A Confederate flag in Canada? That's just weird.

Sure. You can borrow the one that's full of junk that needs to be

What a kook! I'm surprised they even take his calls any more.
Chronic whiner on the line.

Reminds me of a guy I once worked with, he was always watching
everyone, making sure they clocked out, reporting to the boss.
I came to find out he got snagged coming in to work on the
weekends to play checkers or something with some other employee
and putting in for overtime.

Getting caught turns them into vengeful little hall monitors.

We're on a road of one- and two-acre lots. People keep up their
properties, but the occasional extra car or trailer or something
is pretty much par for the course. I really can't see much of
my neighbors' yards from mine, and vice versa. We cut down some
overgrown shrubs in the front last year, so we're pretty exposed
to the road until their replacements grow up a bit.

I did think about that, but decided it wouldn't be a problem
unless I decided to move the fence. Losing that strip of land
would make my property non-conforming, and I don't think it
would be permitted.

Hurricane Sandy fixed all that in one fell swoop. Took down
the tree that was the reason my fence was inside my property
line by so much to start with, and crushed that shed to
splinters. Heh. By then we had new neighbors, and we told
them we're getting a new fence and it will be closer on their
side. They just said okay, but I do have the survey if they
called me on it.

Fires in town are pretty much limited to structure fires.
It's nice and juicy here. It's definitely an appearance
issue, and to a certain extent, about traffic safety.
A few years ago, there was a kerfuffle about gardens in
the space between the sidewalk and the street; the city
didn't want them to block the sightlines of people pulling
out of driveways.

> > Same with snow removal.

>

Sorry, I wasn't clear. Snow must be removed from the sidewalks
within 24 hours of a snowfall of X inches. I don't think the city
cares about people's driveways.

And another one!
My late father's neighbour was a chronic letter writing complainer. He
even threatened my father with a lawyer's letter if he didn't cut the
shared hedge on HIS side!
The dead-end lane at the back of their houses was wider at one spot to
allow cars to turn around but everyone used it to park their cars
instead. He complained repeatedly to the council and eventually they
painted double yellow lines there, which really ****ed off the other
neighbours.
Then one day his daughter visited. He told her it was OK to park in that
spot!!!!!! But some neighbour called the authorities and she got a
parking ticket!

I get that. Why be miserable if you don't have to?

People have told me they shut the house for the summer because
they think it's more efficient, those are the people I dn't
get.

True. I will walk in the heat, but it had better be cool
when I get back home. I tolerate some heat but when it
starts getting uncomfortable and there's no relief in sight,
on goes the a/c.

I don't find him to be a kook. If there is a law that is imposed on me, I
expect it to be imposed on all, or better yet repealed. How else to get it
repealed than to make others subject to it too.
