There are boats all around me. I don't have a boat phobia.

Truth is often stranger than fiction. Must water the lawn. Even though
it has rained every night for a week and the ground is already soaking
wet. Not very bright, are they?

The water was tested and it is not in any way compromised by sewage.
Totally separate lines. It's the incoming main that is affected, not
anything outgoing that might comingle with it.

Yeah, I wondered about what would happen if there was a fire and they
couldn't bring in trucks with the big water pumps.

The rain might be soft water but the water from my shower isn't. It's
not particularly hard water, either. I hope they get the broken line
repaired quickly.

Why then? Last year our heat wave continued long beyond that.

Thank you! I am tired of being called a liar and having people here

Yes! But such was the case with many of the cooling devices that I wanted
to buy, be it fan, or swamp cooler. I wound up buying the swamp cooler
elsewhere.

Yep. It would suck to be one of those people in real life. They come off
as cocky know it alls. Here, they just killfile. What do they do in real
life when they are proven wrong?

Why not? What is so problematic about seeing a boat? Dry docks are very
expensive here and slips even more so. I see boats everywhere. Does not
bother me at all and nobody else that I know is either.

Again... Why not? What happens when they see them? We have RVs and boats
up and down my street. Nobody has a problem with them.

Most of the time that I lived here, we either could not use sprinklers at
all or only every other day and only certain times of the day. They have
not restricted water yet this year because they said that they discovered
that we use less water when we are not restricted. But since we have the
drought, they did tell us to go wet down our roofs and lawns. I did but I
saw nobody else doing it. Now if my bleeping neighbors would just stop with
the fireworks. They were supposed to have stopped an hour and 20 minutes
ago but one person who is very close to my house keeps lighting them.

It used to be. I don't think they say that now with all the pollution that
we have.

That's the thing! Last summer we really had little to no hot weather. It
did get hot but more towards fall. And then we had some bitter cold weather
early on and a very mild spring. Most years there is little to no need for
AC at all. Which is why most people don't put in central air or even
ductless. That's a lot of expense for something that would rarely get used.
I have been told that most new houses here do have AC. I guess it is
cheaper to just put it in along with everything else.

If everyone has them, it is not such a big deal. If only one has one , it
stick out.

I don't mind an occasional one parked for a couple of days, but I don't
want to see one year round, be it RV, boat ,whatever. I can park my car
6' from the family room door id I choose to, but it would obstruct the
view of the woods that start 15' the other side. I'd rather look out
and see trees and birds.

Fortunately, I rarely look the other way. My next door neighbor owns
one each of every motorized product ever made. SUV, pickup, work
pickup, tractor, boat, motorcycle, snowmobile, lawn tractor, pressure
washer, generator, air compressor, camping trailer, and more. He really
should be on 50 acres up in Maine.

In his mind, he is.

Their priority is telling others what to do, not being on the receiving end.

The fact that he's lived in the house for 50 plus years and thinks he owns
the street, whereas these newcomers have only been there about 8 years. He's
a nice man in most ways, but he can be a twit at times. After the city made
him take it down, he went all over town looking for illegal type dwellings
and reported them. The city inspector actually wrote an article in the paper
about him, without naming him, saying this *disgruntled man* was causing a
lot of man hours for the city. LOL

Boats are beautiful, but I don't want one blocking the
view out my window. RVs, I'm sure someone somewhere thinks
they're gorgeous but they are an eyesore and I don't want
to see one in my neighbor's driveway. Or a tractor trailer.

My son was building an infill house and one of the neighbours was a
young lawyer who was forever calling the city to complain about
something to do with any minor inconvenience to him.
My son couldn't do anything about it but one day, he took his laser
surveying equipment and found out that this lawyer had mounted something
on his roof that was above code limits.
A beaming city inspector derived great pleasure in ticketing the pesky
lawyer.

LOL, I know the feeling. You actually do get used to it but it takes
time as you seasonally shift. Right now I've hit the point where 90F
feels fine for a walk but in May, I'd have felt that same to be
sweltering.

Because we do live in the hotter parts of the nation (not the hottest,
just a damp sort of hot where the 'feels like' matters more than actual
temps), we have some house adaptions that make it better.

We have 4 ceiling fans. These make the room feel 10 degrees cooler if
on high. We have 4 stand fans and a table top on a tall bookshelf in
the one bedroom (actually used as a computer room) that doubles as a
ceiling fan in effect there. The stand fans get moved around and
normally only 1 is in use unless there is and AC outage like we just
had.

My AC compressor (HVAC) died. They had to special order a compatible
unit. It took 6 days to get here. Knowing it was faltering, I got a
secondary portable that arrived just before it failed (a good unit from
Amazon, needed an extra 10,000BTU). I already had an 8,000BTU and a
12,000BTU.

With the AC out and it hitting heat index of 103F (actual was just
under 100F, ie, lucked up that it wasn't as damp as normal), we
maintained just fine using stand fans to blow cool air about.

The HOA there probably stipulated only front facing windows had to use
portables, maybe side ones. Lets face it, the area probably sold out
of portables fast and unless they were smart enough to online order,
they couldnt get a portable for a bit.

Best guess?

I have many frugal ways that came from my mother who grew up at the end
of the depression.

Some were crazy making, others merely sensible repurposing of items.
Lots of them aren't cooking related really but here's one that is.

I hate paying for green onion bunches when it's dead on simple to grow
your own. I'll get one set in spring to add to my others from other
years and chop the tops then tuck the bottoms in a long thin container
garden plastic holder. They will grow enough new ones for 3-4 years
running that I don't have to get more.

Rasising those plastic containers at least 12 inches makes them much
easier to work with since I have a bad back. Don (husband) has built
me some raising platforms but the water drains down and eventually the
wood rots out.

Lady in a wind storm lost some shutters. I asked for the broken ones
she had no use for (posted on Feeecycle). I now have 2 more container
tables and because of the slats, the water drains clear so no more wood
rotting. Works for me!

You had to hunt long and hard to find that one!

It's abnormal and you know it.

Mine came in 5 days.

In Ann Arbor (and I'm glad I actually live just outside of town)
if you don't mow your lawn, the city will come around and mow
it, and bill you. Mind you, the weeds have to be pretty tall
and I think your neighbors have to rat you out before the city
pays attention. Same with snow removal.

The noise ordinances are seldom mentioned in the newspaper, and
they're probably more often invoked in the student ghetto.

Absolutely. People can volunteer to be micromanaged all they
want.

I don't think you'd like to live next to me. We have two utility trailers.

One is parked in front of the workshop, and the other is parked behind it.
