Rachael Ray reminds me of that energetic, perky girl in high school
who relentessly organizes all the parties and pep rallies and believes
she is in the bestest class surrounded by the bestest of friends, and
then gets crushed in her senior year when she finally realizes
everyone secretly hates her.

Jay,

Took the words right out of my mouth.

But if she doesn't cut back on the amphetamines or cocaine or whatever,
she'll be the Wretched Wrachael Wray in a couple years, imho,

Her looks and personality have changed a great deal in recent years.
And her voice -- it's gotten so raspy.

Not that I know of. However, the raspy voice is often a symptom of
other things...some of which you mentioned.

I have seen it reported that she smokes. The article didn't say how
much.

She is a bit wound up. She is not a "chef" by any means but really does
not claim to be one and most of the food network "chefs" with exceptions
are entertainers. I have never cooked any recipe I have seen on ANY of
the food network shows but am entertained by some of them.

Just curious, how old do you have to be before you're not
a young girl any longer? Or is it relative.

Definately relative. She looks good.. and younger than her age to me.

In Rachael's case, it's when you have to quit calling it "baby fat"
and just say "chunky."

I like her attitude too. "I don't leave the house unless they pay me",
so she works hard and then she totally relaxes.

$40 a day per person for food? If you watch the bottom line, you can
do it... that's why she's got the show and you don't. LOL We don't
think like that anymore, I know.

I wouldn't claim to be representative, but for me, $40/day/person would be
$160/day while traveling. Only in unusual circumstances do I seek to exceed
that.

If they weren't very good, why were they picked? How does that work?

I remember you said that. It's her one show I did watch after I had
to give up the 30 minute thing. Thing is, I didn't actually think I'd go
to any of the places she mentioned. I just liked to see where she went.
It's apparent you can't take her recommendations seriously.

For all the whining about her that goes on, she's done pretty well for
herself. None of us ever got good enough at anything to have our own TV
shows. She's had three or four.

PS: They must be watching or else there would be nothing for them to
complain about. Yes, she's crying all the way to the bank... that's
why her voice is so husky.

While I love RR I keep thinking that in 20 years she will write a memoir
about how she was a suicidal drunk during her TV years.

And like high school, it seems that many of the posters' criticisms are
made out of mean-spirited jealousy.

I think she should drop the fake raspy voice. She can turn it on and
off, and it's not cute or sexy.

Then I'd like the Food Network to put on some more serious cooking
programs.
I don't need to watch people jumping around and yelling. I can watch
professional wrestling on other channels.

Amuses me when people say that. What does she possibly have
that a gazillion other people don't have in far greater quantities, yet
the people you refer to aren't jealous of them.

Nothing.

OTOH, it amazes me that people post nasty comments about her (like
this subject). I find Paula Deen's mannerisms and recipes very
unappealing yet I have no need to post any articles detailing what I
think about her on rfc. If I don't change the channel it's my own
fault.

I'm willing to consider that it's not jealousy that drives people
insane over RR, but then, what is the impulse? Sandra Lee at least is
funny

For myself, it's interesting to me when people notice the same things
that I do.

But I have never said anything nasty about her. I find her far more
watchable in her $40 and travels show. I can't watch 30 minute or
Inside Dish, she's incredibly grating to me in those.

A scream. Same deal, it's funny to me to see if other people notice
the same things.

I think Rachael invites comment in the way that Emeril used to in his
heyday; complete overexposure, you couldn't get away from her at
one point, if you wanted to watch FoodTV. Just a theory. Why do
some people get all the attention, good or bad. It happens.

RR: She's cute. She's rich and famous. She has 2 tv shows, and she's
starting a third..

Now, show me a "gazillion" more people who have these qualities.

That's why I think you're jealous.

Then you don't know me. Not surprising. I have zero desire to
be famous, have a show, never mind 2 or 3 or 5. And I hand it
to her, she works hard to have those things, and I am not interested
in working that hard any more.

That leaves cute and rich. That's not uncommon.
