Our Daughter Charlotte came home last night for 2 weeks of vacation
after an 11 month deployment on the Nimitz.

Feels good! As mentioned, she's a CS (Ships cook). During that time
she got 2 'EP' evaluations (top mark reviews).

We went grocery shopping so she could get some of her favorite goodies.
Plus we needed eggs and veggie bins were down to just carrots, onions
and potatoes.

Got Broccoli, a bunch of markdown shiitake and oyster mushrooms (.49
each at 8oz), more onions (doing a crockpot carmelized onions). A
special Pasta Charlotte wants to use for a dish she devised that the
ship really loved. One of the things she came up with for the salad
bar when lettuce was gone. Some nice Cod and Flounder fillets. Bay
scallops which she wants to try adding to it. (For shipboard, I will
see it but I think canned oysters might be a possible sub since
scallops won't be obtainable I think). Other stuff like a whole
chicken and some beef steaks.

Some Talenti gelatos on sale (plastic but I have a perfect use for all
Talenti containers so not a plastics issue to me).

Canned oysters are right up there next to canned broccoli.

I open oyster shells, not cans.
They (the live ones) do contain lots of scary chemical ingredients though.
Lucky for Bruce, no one has listed them yet, to my knowledge.

Canned smoked oysters are very good, of course not everyone is into
that kind of thing, but I'd bet the dwarf would suck them down by the
boat load.

Smoked canned scallops and clams are pretty good. If I see some canned scallops in the store, I'll buy at least three or all that's left. I like to drain out most of the oil and add a sauce of shoyu and sugar. Scallops are better than clams but either of them are pretty good.

Canned smoked oysters are fine. The canned oysters in broth are
disgusting.

I used to really like canned smoked oysters. I had so many of them that
I got sick of them and didn't eat them for a long time. Then we were
are a fireside cocktail party and someone was passing them around. I was
reminded how good they are.

It's probably a good idea to not overindulge in those foods one loves. Maybe have it twice a year in small amounts.

Canned broccoli sounds like a great idea. You could be living on a small rock in the middle of nowhere and have broccoli or beef or chicken or practically anything anytime you want. That's pretty awesome and amazing.

Yes, but twice a year? I like wine. Can I only have it twice a year?
