Default Grocery shopping in Texas....

We drove the 4 hours to Conroe, TC yesterday to do some errands we have
been putting off and while ***someone*** was getting her hair done, I
went grocery shopping.

Pork shoulder roasts were on sale for 67 cents a pound. Got two... both
around 7 pounds. One we'll use to make tamales, the other I am going to
use part of to make head cheese.

Pigs-feet. Found these at a Mexican Market for $1.09 a pound... cut up
into small pieces. Again, using these for head cheese instead of an
actual pig head.

Lard - no trouble finding that at the Mexican market. I could have used
the Crisco, but since this is my first time making tamales, I wanted to
do it right.

Candied fruit. Becca made a batch of her Fruit Cake Cookies last week
for Christmas and somehow, most of them disappeared from the freezer. I
suspect that we have a cooking thieving rat in the garage who stole them
a few at a time, then nuked them in the microwave. Krogers had all
their candied fruit on clearance for 50% off, so thankfully, Becca's
family will get some cookies when they get here for the holidays.

Same damn cookie stealing rat must have also eaten her fudge so I
thoughtfully bought the ingredients she needed to make more. To be
honest, after Becca made up the gift baskets for everyone, there wasn't
much fudge left but still, you would think the damn rat would leave a
few pieces for her.....

Damn felonious fudge filching, cookie stealing rat! Must be a Louisiana
thing.

I suggest she leave out a great big sticky trap. Bait it with peanut butter
cookies.

Don't think it's LA only. . .we have one here who enjoys caramel corn in
addition to fudge.

I love cooking with wine.
Sometimes I even put it in the food.

The two legged cookie stealing rats are way more aggressive than the
four legged kind. I suggest giving in and leaving lots of fudge and
cookies for them. As a holiday kindness.

Is that the ferocious watch dog that Becca has rented? I also
understand that Becca installed a hidden security camera with a video
recorder. She didn't tell George because she didn't want him to worry.
She'll catch that lousy rat! With proof on video!

We had to go down to the Houston area on other business so while we were
there, we did some shopping, mostly for things that we can't easily find
here in Shreveport. There are no Mexican markets here in Shreveport,
and the only Asian market has high prices and a very small selection.

BTW - started on the Head Cheese... but this will be more like Souse.
It has been in the fridge all night so later today I'll unmold it and
let y'all know how it came out.
