If I'm low on cash when out shopping I always pay with my debit card and ask
for cash back. Dollar Tree is the exception as they will charge $1 for cash
back. Nope, I'll just ask for cash back at another store.

Typo. Should say that I had no dog. I signed up that way too. The email was
being sent through a third party. I had the site bookmarked but it always
made me log in.

It certainly never occurred to me; in UK many smkts either open 7 am
till late. or 24 hours. I live on a little rock (not Hawaii; off
Scotland).Just an Atlantic backwater, population 4500, so our smkt only
opens 6am to 10 pm.

Another cultural difference spotted in this discussion concerns the
frequently-mentioned US ankle-ramming with a smkt cart. Do US carts have
projecting bullbars, or what? Is this another example of US military
might?

No ankle-rsmming here; lefty socialist UK smkt trolleys are designed
in such a way there's no inbuilt weaponry capable of maiming or taking
down other shoppers. We can't even take guns to the supermarket, let
alone buy one when we get there. Hard to imagine, I know.

Nextdoor is useless unless you lost a dog. It's a bunch of dumb
crybabies. And nextdoor is just a data collection agency. They run
a few other 'scams" pretending to be good for you, but nothing like
Google, the pros at this.

When I signed up it ran a superficial credit check to see if my name
was at my address even though I was an invite (from a phoney
neighbor who I set up before they realized I was phoney). It's
pretty hard to fool process. This credit check is also used to
check age on some sites,a nd asks you questions "Which of these
addresses were yours". Which is inherently evil - do not answer ANY
of thsoe questiosn. They're guessing how to connect the dots to YOU
- they DON'T know, and that's why they're asking you top tell them.
What its actually doing is getting you to update your creditors on
your location and find out who else may have claims against you at
previous addressees. Which everybody apparently already knew except
the State of California comptrollers they could send me a $14,000
overdue tax bill because I didn't pay $85 worth of State income
taxes in the tax year 2000. When it's they who owe me $60 for 1999,
but I moved to Texas around the time I was expecting a return. I
never worked in California in 2000,. I wrote "**** you - you owe ME
$60 from 1999, that comes to 9,870 using your same calculation. pay
up!". So they sent it to credit collections (after 19 years? Also
evil). And "I disputed it" which a useless exercise in futility as
they only ever reply "Nope. We verified the computer records it's
true. Watch, we'll do it again now... Yep,
still true".

This is the collection company that just paid me $85 in a class
action suit for harassment. Which is kinda a sweet victory - getting
a collection agency to send YOU money while you've never sent them
one dime.

Somehow Netxdoor already knows you name through the invite or
application process. They're just using it now to verify its still
you requesting an account action. They won't delete your account
either.

Our neighborhood "administrator" REQUIRES that full names be used
rather than just last initial. So I changed my name to "Steve
Nolast". Another neighbor snitched me out when he PM'ed me saying
"he knew everyone on the street". Well, technically we were never
introduced, but I'm that guy. Then he snitched me out to Nextdoor.
So snitched on him out for deed restrictions. That cost him about
$21,000 in rental income for the house next door to him. Now it's
been for sale for 6 months. And my name is back to being 'Steve
Nolast'. That ****er. He's the one that set the precedence at the
county judge for the deed restrictions for suing somebody else for
the same thing for arguing it against another neighbor 3 years ago.
I sued him with own victory and didn't even have pay court fees.

As a former and still sometimes data miner for odd database formats
from some "proprietary" smaller companies (I purposely made them
odd, duh(*)). I can positively say that your cell phone number is
the MOST EVIL THING you can hand out to any company. It's more evil
than your SS#. It all started with that seemingly innocent "number
portability act". Every time you download and install an "app" your
cell number and email address is given away to hundreds of
databases. Sometimes every time you use an app, too.

So I carry two cell phones - one cellphone that has never been
assigned a phone number and which I side-load ALL apps (Google
doesn't know I've downloaded these apps, and this phone doesn't even
know my google account). And then another cell phone with a phone
number for those old fashioned things, like... CALLING people.

(*) For any database/software developers to appreciate:

Another dirty "contractor" trick is to hard code dynamic numbers
(such as South Carolina's sales tax rate) rather than putting them
into an easily user-changeable or dynamically updated table and only
give them compiled versions of source code until all conditions of
the contract have been fulfilled. Cancel my contract two months
early because I work too fast and wanted to get the **** out there?
Well, I've been following the news and all the conditions are "ripe"
now that NASA is using private contractors. The next time a taxable
entity (not NASA) orders a $52K space shuttle tire from Michelin? I
get about $13K before they can even bill them properly. They can't
hold that up while a lawyer decides if they can fight it, because
I'm holding the source code hostage. And it's a data type they (or
even I) would never expect to look for in compiled binary. It *may*
even be derived from multiple unknown data types to purposely
obscure it even more. There may even be a checksum on the binary
that will cause the binary to error out if you so much as edit one
byte in it. So yeah, they're ****ed. They've been locked out of any
minor changes for a couple years now. This would be a show-stopper
though.

Am I evil. Damned right I am.

Lucretia, have you eaten any beloved lobsters lately? Probably a
decent price where you live but way too overpriced here. Most
all the time, $14.99/lb here.

Supermarkets do open early. Suppose, though, I wanted to go to the
department store for towels and the supermarket for groceries.
I could go to the supermarket at 6 am or 7 am, come home, unload
the groceries, and go back out again. Or I could go to the department
store at 10 am, get the towels, and then go to the supermarket.

The shopping carts that I have been used to all my life (trolley in
Brit speak) consist of a large basket area at the top and a shelf for
additional items on the bottom.

I only go once or twice a year too. It's just those one or two
times that annoy me. I've never used an ATM for cash, I just get
cash back from a grocery store when paying with a debit card.

Super Walmart would be your friend. Open 24/7/365. Go as early as
you want. Buy your towels and then walk a mile to the other end
and buy your groceries. All in one.

why didn't you just bring up your continual harping on your diaper

:-D
I'll bet you never did dirty work out of love, did you?
What an evil entity you are showing yourself to be.
The name-calling Queen of RFC!
Someone remind me to send Janet's husband a sympathy card on his
next birthday.

Something done out of love doesn't require parading the act for
others to see.
You're like the person who gives to charity and advertises his good
deeds.

My younger daughter still lives out in Shad Bay and when we decide to
eat lobbies it's the best of both worlds, their friend and neighbour
is a lobster fisherman. So he comes to the party and the lobbies come
too, my SIL cooks them out on the deck on a gas burner. He generally
does a couple of cooks, my eldest SIL and I like ours cold from the
'fridge, some like them cooked and cooled and others like them hot
from the pot. He really likes my cheesecakes so regards it as a swap
If you're ever up this way, we'll do a lobby feast for you. I
know we're having one last weekend in May.

We don't have a department store. I'd order the towels online then go
to the supermarket for groceries and a newspaper, but not till after the
morning ferry unloaded. It brings the newspapers.

I use my debit card only to obtain cash. I use my credit card
for practically everything over $10 and enjoy the cashback.

It's a stupid design for North America, where chronic ankle bashing is a problem. A simple redesign would transfer the point of contact to a larger, more padded, area of the human anatomy i.e., the buttocks. It's not much of a problem on this rock, where people are less in a hurry and think more about people other than themselves.

Ouch! I'll have to look here. In CT I'd not buy them at 8.99 and wait
for 5.99 or less.

I have bought cod and scallops a couple of times and it was a couple of
bucks more to cover the air freight.

I do that a lot, but the grocery store limits to $50. WalMart will give
you $100. ATM I can get $400.

When I buy in small shops I use my debit card because credit cards eat
too much of their share of the sale. If I had cash, I would use that
but I rarely have cash these days. Credit cards are only for big time
merchants and supermarkets.

That is my method of shopping, too. I hit Walmart, Dollar Tree, TJ Maxx,
Home Depot, etc. and then grocery shopping is my last stop. Not saying
that I hit all the afore mentioned stores every week, but I make food
shopping my last stop.

Yup...it was *perfect* "revenge", and Steve did not have to do much but simply "do his due diligence" in reporting the scumbag...

That's generally my rule of thumb, too. Unless I'm spending a lot
of money at a small shop. I'd never use cash at Big George's Home
Appliance Mart.

Today was a bad day shopping. I went at about 9:30. I could tell I
was feeling fragile for walking but while I considered an electric
cart, there were not any. I've still not used one but today, I really
needed one.

I was 5 minutes into shopping when I knew I was in trouble. That is
not normal for me. The first tweaks of pain are usually at 20 minutes.

Oh well. I made it home. Shopping carts make decent walkers at need.

I think you are remembering Janet Wilder who died some years ago
while on vacation in Vietnam or vicinity.
Very nice woman with good recipes. I do remember she had a
little dog friend. I think she was a widow but before my time
here.

Janet US here still has a husband. At least I hope he's still
alive. He was eating peanut butter and blueberry jam sandwiches
just 3 weeks ago.

BTW, USJanet...I would love to find a jar of that.

That said, I do apologize for even that comment. I so hate it
when someone pushes my buttons, I reply in the heat of the
moment, then usually regret my haste later. Always best to save
emotional (or drunken) replies as a DRAFT. Then read later on and
decide whether to send or not. Most will be deleted.

I really have turned into a grumpy old man. Way too cynical for
even my own tastes. So many people (and beloved animals) have
checked out in the last 3 years. I am so over death. Just imagine
having to live with ME every single day....arrghhh. And I have
to do just that....every single day.

My daughter keeps asking me to come and move in with her. That
fool! heheh
