Default Quick and cheap kitchen redo

Spent somewhere in the vicinity of $100 but my what a difference! sw's post
about the good deal on knives at Costco got me yearning for some new knives.
But those were sold out. So I began searching around. I got this set in
red. Good reviews from Wayfair but some at Amazon did not like them at all.

http://www.wayfair.com/Ragalta-12-Pi...t-RGX1132.html

But I also needed something else for my utensils. Every other place I have
lived at has had enough drawer space for them. But not here. I do have one
small drawer. It holds things like the cherry pitter, peelers, ice cream
scoop, etc. But it is too short and shallow to hold things like the potato
masher, large spoons and pancake flippers.

Not long after we moved in, I bought some insufficient, bamboo utensil
holders. They were too short and small but they were super cheap. I made
do with those until I began having the knife troubles. I hated my Wusthoff
set so much that I began buying odd knives in sheaths. Those went into a
chrome, wire caddy. It didn't work so well either and it didn't match the
others. So I got these:

http://www.surlatable.com/product/PR...Utensil+Crocks

Three large and two small. The large are enormous!

I wound up having to shift things around. The new knife set is too tall to
push back under the cupboard. I could not get the larger knives out when it
was back there. So... I got rid of a few things, some of which were gifts
and I never really used.

Now I have more counter space, I can get to the utensils easily and I don't
have to get ticked off because the holder fell over or other utensils flew
out. And I can fit everything in with no worries.

I did keep the odd knives with sheaths just in case these don't work out.
But they sure are purty!

That's a nice looking set and it's nice to have things match in the
kitchen. Do you really need those steak knives? The knife block I use
contains a chefs knife, a carving knife, a boning knife, a couple of
different size paring knives, kitchen shears and a steel.

I have steak knives but they go in the drawer caddy with the regular
table knives.

Got any wall space? I have an ancient rack that hangs on the wall next
to the stove. From it hangs a pancake flipper, a spatula, a couple of
large spoons (one slotted), a soup ladel and the potato masher.

Looks nifty! They'd match my red rice maker.

Meantime, we have a 7 and a 6 hook metal holder set, side by side (13
hooks), mounted over the stove on the wall. Spatulas, spoons, wire
small strainers, soup ladles, potato masher, tongs, measuring cups and
the TB/TS spoons sets on a ring, and so on. The metal hooks are long
so you can get 2 things on each one. That option may not be available
to you but works well for us.

Grin, the cabinets end right over the edge that starts the freestanding
oven/stove top gas unit. On the side, I have 2 nails which we hang the
cutting boards on.

No. I haven't had any steak knives in over 20 years. In fact I think we
only ever used them once. I gave my steak knives to my husband before we
were married. I have no clue what he did with them. I never got them back.
They had been my parents.

No. There is so little room between the bottom of the cupboards and the
counter.

We shall see about the knives. I haven't had to use them yet.

I think I've only ever had two kitchens with wall space. Both were
military housing.

I'd not want anything over the stove. Too much chance of it falling behind
there. Plus the stove gets hot and I wouldn't want to have to reach over
it.

Don't get me wrong, I prefer the cabinet space but it would be nice to
be able to hang something like a magnetic knife rack but no space for
that either. I've started using the inside of cabinet doors to hang some
racks on that aren't deep and can hold things like spices, or rolls of
foil, ziplock bags, things like that.

I'd be afraid of a magnetic knife rack with cats. And I can't use the
inside of any of my cupboard doors because the shelves and pullouts come all
the way to the edge. I just wish I had a place to keep all of my spices
together. I don't. I have the smaller things in the cupboard but the
larger ones have to sit out.

I pull the rare earth magnets out of hard drives and stick them on my workbench to hold tools and drill bits. It's fairly unsightly but highly effective.

Which is why we got the screen reinforced.

Think it over and maybe you'll see why it's such a
silly statement. (Cats with knives, run for your
life!!!)

Mine do too but I hang things on hooks that will rest
in that space on the door *between* the shelves. There
is one cabinet door that I have put an L hook on that
will hold two cutting boards. They're handy but still
out of the way.

When those pull out spice shelves were everywhere two or
three years ago I bought 2 of them. They work quite well
for holding and organizing the smaller bottles. The larger
bottles reside in another cabinet grouped together. Not an
ideal situation but that's what works in my small kitchen.

Rubbermaid has some very nice storage cabinets.
http://www.rubbermaid.com/CategoryDi...atalogId=30051
You may want to consider plastic tool boxes/fishing tackle boxes.
I store a lot of things in plastic tool/tackle bxes... I have more
than a dozen Plano storeage boxes, there are so many styles and sizes,
choices for every situation, and they are very inexpensive:

I don't need to think about it. Although I have never seen my one cat on
the counter, I know that the other one does at least take treats down if
they are left out. A knife on a magnetic holder has the sharp part exposed.
I would not want a cat to accidentally get hurt on that. Just like I have
the rule that if you use a sharp knife, you wash it and put it right back.
I do not want to find it loose, sitting in the sink.

I considered those, but determined that they wouldn't work well in my
cupboard.

If you stopped buying manufactured goods made in China you would no
longer be able to shop much... the ONLY reasonS manufactured goods are
no longer made in the US is because very few Americans know how to
make stuff and the EPA makes the cost of manufacturing exorbitant.
More than 75% of the manufactured items in your house that you use
every day, mostly necessities (perhaps you don't brush your teeth or
comb your hair), are made in other countries, so you are full of
pinocchio doodoo... just checked, Colgate toothbrushes are made in
China.

SFW?!?!?

Buy one of these:

http://www.dentrust.com/

You won't go back to an outmoded ancient scrub brush ever again.

Oh - made in the USA!

That weirdo thingie is likely what you use to masturbate your teensy
widdle pecker... I don't want to brush my teeth with a faggoty sex
toy... does it need batteries? Wow, $5 for one stinkin' tooth brush,
I buy a ten pack of normal hetero Colgate tooth brushes for $5 at
BJ's. Push that thing on Bwrrryan and his faggoty pal Kootchie so
they can have a mutual afternoon circle jerk. At least they'll have
clean breath freshener peepees, with no cavities.
I don't give a rat's B-hind where stuff is made, there is nothing on
this planet I can't make myself... I've actually built an entire
robotic toothbrush line for a company in Smithtown, Long Island, NY
some forty years ago... they manufactured all kinds of tools with
plastic handles, from screwdrivers to chisels, so they decided to
contract for toothbruhes, they produced toothbrushes by the millions
on my robotic machine, with no labor. Back then
Americans still knew how to make stuff, but no more... nowadays
Americans are too ascared to perspire and get calluses. So you can
buy one $5 faggot tooth brush made in some US cellar or ten hetero
toothbruses for $5 made in China. The Chinese don't produce bad
merchandise or you wouldn't be on line with your chinky puter. They
don't come lower IQ than you Abiquiu troll. Yoose gots to be a fan of
that Black Hussein Obamination and his First ****, the two together
couldn't engineer their way out of a wet paper bag. I'm positive
their spawn are already liberal lezzies.

That is a great idea! Tiny kitchen here with no wall space;
about 4 or 5 years ago I purchased an over the window pot rack.
For me, it works great but I do like your slats on the door.
