Default Maraschino cherry juice

Here's my dilemna and question. I like to put maraschino cherry juice in my
vodka collins. I buy a jar, and only get maybe six drinks worth of the juice,
then throw away the cherries. and start over again with a new jar. Seems
wasteful. Can anyone think of a way I could take those cherries I don't use and
make a juice from them similar to the juice that comes in the jar? Sounds stupid
I know, but I'm just llooking for a way to save money. Thanks.

Could you chop them finely (blender, Cuisnart etc.) and strain out... maybe
even... press out more juice?

You need friends that like the cherries. They eat the cherries and save you
the juice. I have a big jar in the fridge right now and it only has a few
cherries left and probably a pint of juice. If you lived near me, I'd give
it to you.

If you don't have a juice machine, mash them in a bowl,
then pour it all into folded up cheesecloth and twist it
up to squeeze out the wet.

Plenty of actual Alcohol beverages that are Maraschino based

Maraschino Liqueur
A cherry liqueur made from Maraska cherries grown in Dalmatia. They are sour
cherries, tasting a bit like bitter almonds. 30 per cent alcohol by volume.

Or better still

And here you can order the same

I think that chocolate cover maraschinos sound good. I like mine w/dark
chocolate. Just melt your chocolate and dip. Place on a (plastic covered
makes it easy to remove) plate and stick in the fridge. Bet you and/or your
friends will love 'em.

I dump the juice and fill the jar with vodka or 'shine (maybe a splash
of spiced rum, too). Makes great "pickled" cherries and all the
ladies love them.

Sometimes I make cherry frosting by making butter cream frosting but
replacing the milk with some maraschino juice and then chopping up a few
maraschinos into the frosting. It is very good. It comes out pink and it
has lots of flavor.

Here's my recipe:

* Exported from MasterCook *

Chocolate Covered Cherries

Recipe By :Carol Peterson (Damsel)
Serving Size : 0 Preparation Time :0:00
Categories : Candies Signature Dishes

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
2 pounds powdered sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 sticks soft butter
12 ounces real chocolate chips
3 jars maraschino cherries -- with stems
1/3 bar paraffin wax
6 tablespoons cherry juice

1. Combine sugar, butter, cherry juice and lemon juice; chill 1-2
hours.
2. Drain maraschino cherries and chill thoroughly.
3. Make balls of dough the size of a cherry; flatten and wrap around
cherry, sealing edges.
4. Freeze 1/2 hour or more.
5. In a double boiler, melt chocolate chips together with wax.
6. Reduce heat and dip frozen, dough coated cherries.
7. Dry on waxed paper. Place into bonbon papers.

NOTE: Keep refrigerated until the day candy is to be eaten, or the
chocolate gets dull, and the center begins to crystallize.

That sounds like the perfect solution to the OP's problem. Just add a
drunken cherry to the vodka collins. You're a genius, BOB!

When Crash drank, he'd come home bombed off his a$$, and all he'd had
to "drink" was rum-soaked cherries.

Just a sec. I got to try that...

....

Mmmm....garlicky cherries...

It'd probably take a few sacrificial lambs before the
juice comes out without that pinch to it, but it does
do the job pretty well. Turns a cherry into a few ml
of concentrated red sugar-water in a tick.

Slicing the cherries and putting them in skin-side-up
would help, too.

Naw. Found them at several of the BBQ-type gatherings (the ones where
Jill says you can't keep things cold!) where they were in-between
course snacks.

I'm talking about those (about) 1 gallon jars from Sam's or Costco.
Uses at least a quart of alcohol, and needs about a week to become
effective. They're best when made with a good, neutral tasting
"Tennessee Spring Water".

You had these in FLORIDA?

Heh. The ones Crash consumed were soaked in Bacardi 151. He was a
rum man.

Amazing, isn't it? We even have a paved road or two.

I have no idea of the strength of the Tennessee "water", but a couple
of 'em sure make you feel gooooood.
Every now and then, I'll add a splash or two of Captain Morgan's
Spiced Rum to change the flavor.

They have to be imported. Down one of the paved roads.

> OR BBQ in Florida!?!

You're close. Not in any restaurants, anyway. There's three slabs of
ribs and a couple of pork butts on the smoker right now. The rib tips
*should* be done, but it's pouring rain and I'm *NOT* going out there
in that stuff. ;-)

And then there's cherry bombs. Get a big jar of cherries from Costco,
pour off the juice and refill with 100 proof Hot Damn (cinnamon
schnapps). Refrigerate 1 week. Dump 3 or 4 cherries and a couple of
fingers of juice into a glass, top off with seltzer and crushed ice.

Yum.

I don't know if they have one where you are but...here we have a place
called the Bulk Barn. They sell the cherries and their juice in
bulk...sometime they will sell the juice only (ask the manager)

Quit buying cherries and buy yourself a bottle of Creme de Noyeaux. The
flavor is that of almonds which is what you're really after.
