I hate all that plastic waste too. I've started to resource things at
lease 'acceptable' in non-plastic and by them instead then email the
company I didn't select on what and why I selected a different product
over theirs. I am sure it goes in a bit bin uncounted, but it makes me
feel good to at least try.

Not being sarcastic but what are you using instead. Paper or
cardboard - that's trees cut down and wasted. Glass jars aren't
accepted anymore. Cans? . Plastic is recycled in my city, Jars,
bottles, styrofoam, screw on lids, plastic bags -- pretty much
everything. (made into fuel) My only point is that whatever you
choose creates a disposal or re-use problem.

Same here with me. I've used all 4 brands of what you mentioned and all
are fine with me. I will go for Hellman's first though.

My guess is that the Japanese consider mayo to be a fancy topping and use a bottle so you can top your foods with either a thin rope or a thicker ridged line. I don't typically use it that way. Perhaps I should start.
We went to the Asian market yesterday. The Vietnamese have been leaving Chinatown and setting up shop in Kalihi. Mostly the place was filled with Vietnamese and Filipino vendors. I got some Vietnamese coffee and a Filipino version of Twinkies. There was also some sterculia latex and banana shoots. I have no idea what you're supposed to do with them.

A lot of countries have different ways of using leftovers from milk processing, I guess.

The Japanese aren't really into milk. Mostly, they drink low-fat fermented milk soft drinks or probiotics. They probably put mayo in squeeze bottles because they use it like ketchup - on top of food. Maybe we should be putting ketchup in squeeze bottles.

I tried it once during a stopover at Tokyo Airport. I don't think I
liked it very much.

The only one I actively dislike for most uses, is Miracle Whip but I do
admit, in a small number of situations, it works. It's way to
disgustinly sweet for most things. Then again, compared to average, I
have a very low level of sweet-tooth.

I'll have to get miracle whip tomorrow though. Charlotte is coming
home tonight after an 11 month deployment on the Nimitz. She likes it
so will get a small jar when we Mommie/Daughter shop tomorrow.

Glass at least degrades over time. I do not worry in paper as it is a
renewable resource so a paper carton of milk or whatever, works fine.
Cans work fine for me too.

If I had the space for it, I'd try composting but seriously, I do not
have the right space to make a real go of it.

I just try to avoid plastic itself when once empty, I have no use for
it.

What are those bluish purple "Little Shop of Horrors" pod things? Feed
me, Seymour!"
Or..."Day of the Triffids" or "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" for
even earlier examples. Yikes!
Don´t go back if you are even you anymore.

I have to quarantine myself for a couple of week before getting back to that disease laden building. It's like the evacuation of Saigon in there! The purple pods were innocent banana buds. Evidently, there are baby bananas inside those things. The babies form from the bottom. That makes sense. You can stir fry the buds or make salads with them. That's so weird.

I think he was making a little joke. He's a stranger to the basic emoticon.

He's Asian. You always have to guess what they're really thinking.
Emoticons would make it too easy.

Me too! I always forget to shake the bottle first and end up squirting ketchup water on my food. It's kind of disgusting but it tastes alright. I reckon that sooner or later, I use up all the ketchup water and from then on, It'll be smooth sailing!

Maybe not for the younger working crowd for lunch, at least. There's this massive plastic jar that everyone keeps fast food condiments in. I wonder how long some of that stuff has been in there?

We do. Kraft makes one and others might as well. And yes, the Japanese
use it often as a fancy artful topping.

My rule of thumb is:

If Gatorade tastes bad, you don't need it--drink water instead.

Once you get to where you need those electrolytes, Gatorade
tastes pretty good.

You're a bit late with that idea. All of my ketchup has come in squeeze
bottles for several years now.

They used to have those ketchup commercials where they had to turn the
bottles upside down and slap the bottom to get the stuff out, and they
used Carly Simon's song Anticipation and someone waiting for that thick,
rich ketchup to come out. Now they sell it upside down so you don't see
how thin and watery it is.

We did and shopping was fun! I'm resting between stages of making home
made cream of mushroom soup.

Making a double batch since a single batch didn't last more than 2
hours here.

5 cups mushrooms, measured after chopping with a fairly fine dice
1 c diced onion
4 cups broth (used vegetable stuff I make but chicken or beef will work)
1 c heavy cream
1 c milk (or use 2c half and half instead of milk and heavy cream combo)
6 TB butter
6 TB flour
1 tspn Thyme

Add mushrooms and onions to broth with thyme. Simmer 20 minutes. Use
stick blender to smooth.

Second pan, melt butter (works best if just turn on heat long enough to
start melting then let residual heat finish it). Add flour and mix
carefully so there are no lumps.

On a low heat, add cream in small amounts, whisking to prevent lumps,
then add broth mix.

Optional: Can skip stick blending mushroom broth mix but add about 3/4
and do it with the cream base, then add rest so you have nice bits of
onion and mushroom in there.

BTW, if you do not have a need to go low salt, add 1/2 tspn salt to the
mushroom broth mix. I added mine at serving time.

But Steve, that's apples and oranges. The shit they sell as
mayonnaise is shitty. They use shitty oil. They often use egg
whites, and most often use vinegar. I'm not knocking the shelf-
stable aspect vs. freshly made, but this shit like Hellman's, Kraft,
****ing whatever is a shitty ingredient.

You might be happy to know that in an otherwise blissful marriage,
that there are conflicts. I went into the store and bought my wife
a jar of that wino beatoff. There was some discussion about why
she didn't just get out the stick blender, but I think that I've
figured it out, thanks to you, Steve.

It's not that she is afraid of salmonella. She understands that
with commercially produced, bleach washed eggs the chance that
the yolk would be infected by salmonella is about zero, but she
icks on raw yolk, like I ick on raw albumin.

"Byran"? Are you confusing me with a *My Little Pony* character
called Byran? Are you a "Bronie"?
