Default Ribeye on the rotisserie

Monday I made another ribeye roast on the rotisserie. Easy to do and
nice to eat. Just season, poke with the rod and holder, sit back and
let it spin 90 minutes.

Four of us for dinner and plenty left over for another couple of nights.
Hassleback potatoes, mushrooms with sour cream, tomatoes with herbs
and balsamic vinegar

Looks awesome, Ed. Good choices for sides, too. Hmm, I need to make some Hasselback potatoes; haven't had them in a while and I can sort of turn them into a vegetarian main with some thoughtful topping.

Don't forget sandwiches!

I have a Ronco Showtime rotisserie that's been sitting around for a year or two. It's probably about time to fire it up - or dump it. Monkey see, monkey do. The price for these dodads have gone up, it seems.

Jus, not au jus. Au jus is how you have it.... served with the jus.

That pair of chickens must be tiny! That rotisserie makes great chicken. Unfortunately, you can buy a Costco rotisserie chicken for 5 bucks, which is about 4 bucks less than a raw chicken.

True. But if you want to have any sort of control over what goes in your piehole, home-roasted
chicken is the only way.

The work involved in roasting chicken is less bothersome to me than going to Costco. I hate
that place.

This rock is crazy about Costco. Why is that? My guess is that it's a place where we can get stuff for dirt cheap. Mainland people probably find it less of a deal because food is cheaper on the mainland. Well, that's my guess anyway. OTOH, you'd probably hate the eternal crowds at the Iwilei Costco on Oahu. It's been called the busiest Costco in the world.

I like Costco's meat (as did Julia Child), but it's a colossal pain to go there. A half-mile hike for steaks whose
price is no better than the sale price at the grocery store isn't worth it.

Most of what people like at Costco just isn't of interest to me. Same with Trader Joe's.

And, yes, I hate crowds. That's why I grocery shop at 6 or 7 am.

I consider my walk through the store and back and forth in the parking
lot part of my leg exercise. Every store I go to I park as far out in
the parking lot as possible.

I drive down the aisle nearest the door and take the first spot I find. Using this
algorithm makes it easier for me to find my car when I'm done.

I still don't want to walk half a mile for steaks when I can get them at the
local grocery store without the hike. Especially since steaks are just about
all Costco has that I'm interested in buying.

I can't say that I park as far out as possible, but I do tend to grab
the the first decent parking spot I see. Many times I have followed
people into a parking lot and watched them driving around and around
looking for a better spot and I will be into the store or mall before
they have even found a parking spot.

Rather than park right out in front of my place that's always
so crowded, about 8 months ago I started parking in a lot
about 1 block away. The exercise isn't a bad thing plus there
is always plenty of parking there. A win-win solution.

I park at some distance from the entrance to minimise the chance of getting
my car dinged by doors on cars parked to closely. And I prefer the
excercise too, especially as the balmy fall temperatures of last week have
suddenly switched to minus C and so I don't feel like cycling.

I park in the garage, so I don't have to clean snow off my car in the winter.
A win-win solution.

My "dream house" has an attached garage.

My Chinese friend likes to park away from other cars too. I find this to be an annoying habit when I'm riding in his car. My guess is that all Chinese people think like this.

That surprises me, considering the reputation Chinese people have for
being outstanding drivers.

My Chinese friend is an okay driver. I don't much care for how he keeps the AC fan set so low. He probably thinks it saves gas. He'll also drive all over the god damned place to save a few cents on gas. Luckily, I haven't been in his car since this pandemic thing started - because he's terrified of germs. Yay!

You, too??? I'll park close to the door if it's an end parking space that I can
slightly park over the outside line to give the car next to me plenty of room
to swing their door open without banging into mine.

Still nice weather here and I hope to ride tomorrow as this week has been
somewhat busy most days. Within the last three days I've seen three e-bikes;
I need to write that on my calendar.

Ask him to let you out at the door while he parks the car.

Yeah, the weight of the e-bikes are certainly a surprise when you're used
to riding a street bike. My brother rode my e-bike about 2 weeks ago and
he said the take-off power and constant assist were quite surprising.

It was not a stellar year for kayaking for me this year. I usually
paddle 400-500 km per year, mostly in club paddles. This year..... 5 km.
It was bad enough that we had to suspend club sanctioned paddles
because of the pandemic. Most of our launch sites were closed until we
went to stage 3 and then we faced restrictions on the number of people
who could attend. Later on the responsibilities for trip leaders became
too onerous. It was bad enough that they would have to keep track of
those attending and follow up with them after two weeks. The bigger
problem was the requirement to clean up all the litter at launch sites.
Our members do not littler, and in the midst of this pandemic I would
not expect anyone to be touching the garbage of strangers.

My biggest problem was a complete lack of energy. That turned out to be
the congestive heart failure. Now that that problem has been
successfully treated I have been cleared to return to pickleball, I
still have a weight limitation, so I can't pick up by kayak to load and
unload it and cannot paddle until next season.

The Y gyms are open again, but with serious limitations. It is getting
too cold and wet for cycling.

You should see me pedaling going up a hill. I'm pretty sure I look like
a hamster on its' exercise wheel and PAS on 5 and I'm in 1st gear.

I still have a Ronco Veg-O-Matic from the sixties in its original box. I like
to think of it as a family heirloom that will be glanced at during my assets
divvying and thrown in the trash.
