Default Celery Salt

I was going to put some on the Tater Tots the other day but realized I had
none. I think I gave it to Angela when she moved out. Ws going to buy some
more but it's not cheap. I wonder if I need it? I was thinking I used it in
coleslaw but maybe that's the seeds that I use. Last batch of slaw had no
celery anything and it was fine.

Do you use celery salt? If so, what do you use in in/on? Maybe I don't even
need it. Don't know. Thanks!

No, I don't use celery salt as it is mainly salt. I do use celery seed and
have used ground/powdered celery. I use it for anything that has celery in
it to boost the celery flavor such as tuna salad, cabbage slaw, cornbread
dressing, etc.

* I can't remember when it was , but we used to have some celery salt
.... I think . I figger anything I'd use it on would probably taste
better if I used either fresh or dried celery and regular salt instead .
ISTR my paternal grandmother using celery salt on burgers , must not
have made that much difference since the idea obviously never stuck with
me .

The slaw recipe I use calls for celery seeds. Just a matter of taste
though. I don't go heavy with it. We never had celery salt in the house.

Winco carries it in the bulk section

I dislike those little seeds in slaw

No, I don't use celery salt. I don't like the taste.

That said, the American curry powder that I use for Chicken Divan has
a lot of celery seed in it. I don't use it for real curries, but
garam masala just tastes wrong in Chicken Divan.

Thanks. I have seed and dried. The dried is mainly the leaves. I like the
leaves in soup. Raw celery doesn't always have much in the way of leaves.

Yeah but I try not to buy bulk spices. No container to put it in. I might
buy once in a while if I am trying out a recipe that calls for something I
don't have and am not sure I'll use again,

While growing up, we always had celery salt. It was used as part of a steak seasoning. I think it's good on a steak.

I'm not sure what is 'correct', but I thought that celery salt used ground
celery seed; not dessicated celery.

I know you will probably find a reason to reject the suggestion, but you
can buy cheap spice jars and then fill them from bulk sections and it is
still cheaper than buying a jar in the spice shelf at the grocery store.

Or save the previous jar and refill it from the bulk purchase.

I wouldn't know where to buy such containers or labels for them. I buy some
of my seasonings at Costco because I use so much of those things.

She doesn't have enough room in her house to store a 4" tall 1.5"
diameter spice jar.

Or she can't afford the $0.75 to buy the jar.

Celery salt contains no actual celery per se, it's made of powdered
salt and ground celery seed... celery seed is a much different flavor
from celery or it's leaves. I keep a small amount of celery salt, it
lasts a very long time and costs little, at least the one from
Penzeys.... it's wonderful for chicken stock, egg salad, roast beef,
and you can't make a decent bloody mary without it.
https://www.penzeys.com/online-catal...-24/p-357/pd-s
The 1/4 cup jar lasts me at least 2 years.

I have a new Costco flyer that lists this on sale for $22 for the
holidays. Makes the spices very, very cheap. Makes the jars cheap,
too.

I once got a bottle of celery seed. I liked it a lot. The rest of the family rejected it. Beats the hell out of me what they got against those cute, tiny, little, seeds. Seeds that never hurt nobody noways.

Well, Bed, Bath, & Befuddle stocks those spice jars for a starter. If you
have a home printer you can print out the labels in your favorite script
and color and tape it to the jar. You don't necessarily have to use labels;
plain white paper neatly cut out after printer does just as well.

Wow. I knew there would be a reason that would be a problem for you, but

Check out mine. It is 3 of what normal mortals might refer to as a 'Spice
Rack'. It covers the inside of the door to my pantry closet. There are 57
bottles, but I cannot really count 'Curry' or 'Chili' powder because they
are mixes of other spices. Similarly 'Italian' is just a mix.

There's a stack of such jars for sale down around your feet when you
are at the bulk spices at Winco. They are less than a dollar each

No thanks. I don't shop at Bed, Bath and Beyond. I very much dislike that
store.

My mom has had similar. They always contain things I'd never use. And the
only jar I ever refill is the parsley. Only reason, it's too hard to pour
from the giant Costco container.

Of course you do. I would have keeled over with a heart attack if you'd said
"thanks, I'll check it out."
