Braised pork shoulder with basmati rice.
I braised some pork for the first time only a few weeks ago and was more than pleased with the result. This time I'm omitting starchy vegetables as I will serve it on a bed of rice. It's only 8:30AM but I'm cooking it now. Had too many visitors showing up right around the time I plan to cook dinner lately. Plus a slow cook does no harm to a braise, of course. Had poached eggs on toast for brekky. |

I've decided to also make roast pumpkin soup today since it's overcast and wet outside. I'll just potter around the house and do domestic type stuff. |

Since I live nearby and the pizza place won't deliver to the park, I get co-opted. Always a nice social event that enables me to catch up on old acquaintances. Graham |

I've been through all the 'gluten free' business myself. I don't have a gluten intolerance but I do have a mild allergy to wheat, so that basically meant trying gluten free breads etc. They were all awful, albeit some products were a hell of a lot better than others. Interestingly, my then girlfriend did a lot of trial and error work making the ideal gluten free bread and it was the best one I ever tried (and I've tried an awful lot of them). Alas, I don't have the recipe any more and neither does she. These days I just use either spelt or wheat and hopefully don't suffer too much (usually it isn't too bad). |

If Product 1 is awful and Product 2 is a hell of a lot better, how can Product 2 be awful? |

Nice, I did consider using egg noodles myself with my pork braise but ended up choosing rice. |

Angela had some college testing and then we went to the taqueria after. She had the taco (street) plate and I had the Gorditas. The food was good as usual but having to watch the pig at the other table was not. They have a lovely condiment bar with an assortment of pickled and raw veggies, slaw, lime wedges and assorted salsa. Also serve yourself chips. Guy took at least one bowl of everything there there and two bowls of chips. One for him, one for his wife. Not sure what he ordered but it was a big platter. His wife had the taco plate and a side of sour cream. They didn't quite finish all of it. We didn't finish all of ours either but they didn't have a square inch of free space on that table! I took the last of the meatloaf out of the freezer so we'll have that tomorrow. |
