I have to agree, though it might take more than doubling for me to drop
it. I like the extras, and I order enough from Amazon to make the yearly
fee worth it.

I'm not sure that we are talking about the same thing.

Facebook is a remarkable database of the connections between people, places,
things, and faces. My theory is that if you have a big enough database, you
locate people simply by doing a search of a few relevant words. Big data
like this is gonna be a great tool for law enforcement in the future. No
complex algorithms will be needed - just simple connections.

---

I like that I can connect to people right here in my community almost
instantly. I needed a good handyman. Boom! Got one the very next day.
Far better than the newspaper, phonebook or search engine. I also hired
some kids to clean up the dropped fruit when my gardener broke his foot.
Sadly his foot is still in bad shape but I have a line on some back up
gardeners too.

to be sure everything you read on FB is gospel truth, just like usenet.

More like, local criminals use FB to identify gullible idiots.

I'm talking about a database of simple, one-to-one, connections between people and things. It might be possible to build a "connection engine" that will output one person's name with only a few query terms - maybe 5 or 6. If the database were large enough, it would work seemingly like magic. I ain't talking about Angie's List here.

What I got out of that paragraph was *law enforcement* (read
"government") will be using social networking connections (aka FB
friends) to gather personal data. And yes, I'm pretty sure they already
are gathering data in just such a way from many social networking sites.
