Default What's for dinner?

I'm having an off day here. Got up waaaay too late because the kitties were
in my bed for cuddles and they didn't want to get up. That doesn't happen
too often so I take advantage of it when I can. They prefer their dry food
to anything and they have a self feeder so they never beg for food.

Angela has been diagnosed with a thyroid problem (low) and it is hard to get
her moving too. Thankfully my Endo. agreed to see her but she can't get in
till early Aug. I don't think she is on the right dose of med yet.

So I wanted to go shopping at Winco, but Angela wanted to eat at Wendy's
first. She loves their grilled chicken. She doesn't get the bun. Just the
piece of chicken. I should buy extra and chuck them in the freezer. Heh.
I didn't really want to eat there. Wasn't really hungry yet and the one
time we did eat at this location, the chili I had was horrid. All watery
broth with maybe three beans and a tiny piece of meat. So I just had a
garden salad to give me something to do while she ate.

Got home, put away the food and made a peanut butter (crunchy) and pickle
sandwich. I am having it on bread but I sometimes make it without. To do
that I take a big dill, dry it well, then slice it in half lengthwise.
Spread on the peanut butter and make a pickle sandwich! Also having a small
bag of apple slices.

What did you have? Or what will you have tomorrow?

Trying to imagine the peanut butter pickle... well, I am sick as a
dog. Someone brought some horrid virus into the house this past week
(been people here all week, visiting or staying as it was my son's
birthday and last night another mate's birthday). Its between a bad cold
and the flu. Probably mild flu. Enough that the headaches, sore throat,
congested head, aches, pains and slight temp are forcing me to bed a few
hours a day. Even a bit nauseous at times as well. Last night I went to
bed in the arvo and didn't get up until 10 pm and had some bbq chicken
and mayo on a roll with a cup of tea. Tonight I have no idea what I feel
like eating. My 20 year old said he would "cook". Deep fried chicken
nuggets with potato gems (think they are like your Tater Tots). I might
even go to the noodle bar close by where I buy the stir fry part of what
they offer sans the noodles or rice. Its only the small size but they
pack it in and put extra veggies for me and its more than enough.

I think an early night is looking good I had to get up early to take
one interstate visitor to the airport for a relatively early flight. My
son wouldn't have been allowed to drive even if his car wasn't at my
other son's house where he left it last night to cab it into the city
(zero blood alcohol for him on his type of licence). So I think hat once
we pick up his car and I have overseen dinner I will get back to bed.
I have been playing 2 iPhone games while in bed, iAssociate (an
incredibly addictive word association game) and Everest. Almost having
to leave the phone on charge the whole time, lol.

Sorry to hear that. Sounds like what Angela had a while back that turned
into an ear infection.

I only have a standard kind of phone. It does have a couple of games on it
but I never play them.

Unless you are providing really good dry food you are condemning your cats to
the real likelihood of feline diabetes

The guy sitting next to us tonight had three burgers and some sort of pink
drink with whipped cream on it. He ate one burger in three bites. You'd
think he would be fat but he wasn't.

I love home made burgers. I like a plate of lettuce, tomato and
beetroot with the cooked hamburger meat and fried onions. A bit of
tomato sauce and eat with knife and fork. To me it has all the taste of
the burger without the bun. I never do the cheese bit though, never have
liked cheese on a burger. I hate the trend here in Aus where you ask for
a salad plate (lets say chicken and salad) and they add a lot of grated
or sliced cheese. I can't figure how cheese can be "salad"

Thanks Lee, not often I get laid up with an illness. I usually plod on
regardless of pain or discomfort (although a tummy bug will have me out
for the count for a few hours).

I've never tried beet on a burger. That's just not done here. I love
beets. Just not sure I'd like them there.

As a kid I would not eat a burger without cheese on it. Not that I ate very
many because I didn't like them much but I would eat that over pizza any
day.

As an adult I didn't eat many either. Would rather have the bun and the
cheese. But then when I was diagnosed with a dairy allergy I felt I could
never eat a burger again! I did eat them and liked them with the rice
cheese. But then all the stores around here quit carrying it. So I began
eating it without. And I liked it! In fact once or twice I did try them
with cheese and didn't like the cheese on there!

If I am eating them with cooked onions, I don't want lettuce or tomato but I
do like lightly cooked green pepper on top if I can get it.

With lettuce and tomato or even spinach and tomato, I prefer raw onions.

and not good if you are trying to contro fat. I like cheese on my burgers,
prefer a lettuce wrap or half a bun, tomatos, no acom or onions, unless very
thin. Lee

Mom is a small cat. 8 pounds and very muscular. Not fat at all. Baby is
growing longer. Stretched out she reminds me of a wiener dog. But she is
very skinny still. Neither one overeats. The vet says they are healthy.

have meatloaf again tonight(cold), perhaps on low carb bread with mustard.
Also a big salad. I wiill not have a few small red potatoes because I
have been having some trouble with my bgs or the last few days. I think
it is picking in the fridge from boredom. (This is a bad diabetic
complication:-) The rest I will freeze for later in the week, as I have a
whole, fresh chicken to cook Sunday, as i don't want to freeze it just for
a few days. That will give me meals for the rest of the week. I am p at
my country hose for a long week(2 weekends+) and I won't have it all
equipped with a freezer of food as I did when we spent 2 -3 months here.

Cooking and living alone is the pits after 46 years of a great marriage!
I am STILL not used to it.

i can understand this only because my dear friend lost her husband five
years ago, she has tried various strategies, she has had a heart attack in
the meantime, so now she has returned to bulk cooking and freezing
individual portions, but now its geared to her new dietary considerations,

I use low carb pita, split orizontally(across, not sepatating into two
disks) for eatign 2 hot dogs. You have to curl the hot dos a little, but
it works and is ever so many fewer carbs!

I am with you on that, both the bunless burger and the no cheese with
everything.

I hope you are feeling better.

I've been experimenting with cucumbers, which I really don't care for, but
I've been missing watermelon so I peeled a cucumber, took the seeds out, and
then sliced it up. I took about 1/2 tsp of watermelon flavored unsweetened
Kool-Aid sprinkled it on them, added a couple of packets of Nutra-Sweet, and
stirred it all up. I let it sit for a few hours and it really does taste a
lot like watermelon. Next time, I'll try it with Sweetzfree. Very few carbs
and very few calories. Tasty. I have never had a pickle and peanut butter
sandwich.

Me caring about the health of your cat is NICE, especially considering the

Only a tad, thanks Wendy, and the dishes are piled in the sink. We do
have a dishwasher but no one has decided to put anything in it.
Inevitably, because of the prolonged head congestion, my sinuses are now
playing up. I've been having wasabi on everything to open everything up
No doc on the weekend here unless I get a home visit which apart from
being costly isn't really an emergency.

Thanks, see answer to Wendy. Another alternative is to go to the
hospital for meds but I don't want to infect anyone else in the waiting
room. That's how my eldest two kids caught measles when they were very
young.

How do you do the turkey meatloaf? I only have success with beef,
chicken meatloaf was a disaster - it was very dry.

I make some low carb breadcrumbs in the food processor and put themiinto a
ig bowl. Then I chop aa nice sized onion and a greenpepper in the
processor, pulsing so it doesn't go all into slush. I put that into the
bowl and mix it some then add the meat(1lb for 1 green pepper and one
onion and 3 slices of low carb bread(small slices, but not
fluffy texture.) I mist this and add what in the US is a 8oz can of
tomato sauce(NOT KETCHUP) it is called "Spanish Styple, and is not highly
flavored, but fairly liquid. I add seasonings, last night, some
worchestershire sauce, S&P, and some oregono and one egg. It is fairl wet
when I put it into the pan, but loses quite a bit ofmoisture while
cooking. I cook it in a fairly hot oven 425F for up to an hour and that's
it. It is a less solid meatloaf, but qite nice and is also wonderful cold
with a little mustard the next day. If ou try it, let me know how it
comes out for you.

Is this it? If so, it sounds like our tomato puree:

Hmmm... I don't like cucumbers or watermelon. Cucumbers I can eat.
Watermelon I can not.

Tonight my mom was sick so I got prepared foods from the organic market at
the other end of town where they live. Cooked chicken breast, pakoras,
falafel, two kinds of rice, corn, vegetable salad and three little cakes. A
gluten free one for Angela. I didn't eat everything. Can't say that I care
for parokas. I had them before and didn't like them either. I like all of
the ingredients. It's the seasoning that puts me off. Too sweet or
something. It has been several hours and I am still tasting it. And the
salad? Never again. I thought it had celery on it so I took a lot of that
part and it turned out to be cucumber! Bleh. The greens were just waaaay
too bitter. My dad didn't like it either. Angela and my mom refused to
touch it. And I had forgotten but the last time I got it, it grew. It was
as though they packed it tightly in the container and when you try to serve
it, it jumps up at you and seems to refill itself. My dad had a paper bag
and he said if he tried to put it in there it would probably overfill the
bag. It was good for a joke but not good for eating.

I'll say it again. Why are you here? Oh and FOAD. Yep. I'm not gonna be

Do you know why beets are such a big deal in Australia? I once found some
canned ones at Grocery Outlet and they came from Australia. Do they grow
well there or something?

No better than any other vegetable Maybe like potatoes, pumpkins and
onions they are things that keep for a long time without refrigeration.
I remember my grandmother, mother and first MIL always made pickled
beetroot often. Way different in flavour to the canned stuff but it was
a taste I really liked.

Hmmm... Here they are not all that common. Most salad bars will have them
but salad bars are few and far between these days.
