Put up another four pints of green beans yesterday, total so far is
eighteen pints, shooting for a minimum of 24 to 30 pints. That amount
will give us two servings at a meal for a good long while.

Have six 2 cup bags of shredded zucchini in the freezer plus three 2 cup
bags of sliced yellow squash in there. More zukes and squash coming on
strong. Hit the green beans yesterday with a shot of Super Bloom to
encourage them to produce more. Still have a way to go to harvest and
put away lima beans and crowders. Limas are making beans but not filling
out as yet and the crowder peas were slow getting a start but are
getting ready to climb now. Planted corn but only one stalk made it,
about two feet tall now and this variety, Truckers Favorite, can get
eight feet tall if encouraged.

Picking eggplant, sweet chiles, and cukes nearly daily now. Will
probably make some eggplant fritters and freeze them if the crop is
good. We like the fritters and they are tasty even made in advance and
then thawed and fried.

The figs are getting bigger daily and the basil is about four inches
high so far. Dill weed is going to seed and we let it as it will make a
crop for us later this year. Harvest some oregano the other day and need
to cut and dehydrate even more as I'm out of dried oregano at the
moment. Rest of the herbs are doing well and I discovered a gallon
container cache of dried bay leaves under a seldom visited counter.

We're still getting lots of rain, including a deluge that hit us around
3 am this morning and dropped a few more inches on us. I think we're
already above average on rainfall this year. Did get the grass mowed and
trimmed so the mosquitoes aren't as bad as they were. Had to buy some
mosquito repellent. Being diabetic I seem to attract the little devils
more than other people. Plus we have West Nile virus in the area a good
bit of the time and I don't need another disease.

Big birthday party yesterday for Miz Anne and two of our great
grandchildren. I'm not saying her new age but the grands, a boy and a
girl, both hit twelve last week. Lots of good food, loud noises, and
three cakes plus gifts. Our family is a noisy one but we still love
them, all 20 of them.

looks like more rain today too for parts of
Texas. i hope it gives you a break there in the
eastern parts.

West Nile is around these parts too, but not common,
luckily the mosquitoes here come out in the early morning
or in the evening and in either case i'm usually not out
in the gardens to get bit by them, they also hang out in
the tall grass along the ditch and the north hedge, but
i don't usually go into either of those unless it's midday
and a good breeze.

because of the other bugs here and my lack of wearing
sunscreen i keep well covered with a long sleeve shirt and
gloves and long pants when i'm out in the gardens most of
the time, any stray mosquitoes i can usually smack. oh,
and a hat, gotta have a hat.

We partied at middle grandson's house, his dog is used to commotion,
Tilly stayed home and napped. She's a little ol' lady dawg and likes to
nap and get snacks and keeps me warm in the easy chair. She's very wary
of small children, of which we have a plethora.
