If I listed products that were targeted at what I think is poor taste, the list would be long enough to wrap around Wall Street. The American auto industry would be at the top of the list. Rachael Ray is just a young girl with a howto entertainment show that is pretty successful.. good for her! I mean flip the channel and you will get Dancing with the Stars..AHAHAHAHAHAHA |

We love real ethnice restaurants and they tend to be very inexpensive. We like "dives" at home too. Well, our town is not known to be rife with fancy restaurants so we frequent our own special haunts. They're long on food and we love the atmosphere but it's definitely mom n' pop. helen |

There is this little restaurant in St. Cloud, just south of Orlando, that we went to at least once a week. It was recommended by friends, because we wouldn't have gone there on our own. It used to be a gas station from the looks of it. "Bonnie Lee's" has the best fried chicken I've had anywhere. They don't open until 4 pm. but if you're not there by quarter to, you have a wait. They have a limited menu, and if you go there after the supper hour, you run the risk that they are out of something. They buy their chicken every day and the quality is top notch. Anyone that's in the area, I'd recommend you give it a try....But they aren't open Sunday or Monday. It's family run, and I miss it.....we haven't been south for more than two years....Sharon |

A good friend chicken with some good creamed potatoes and/or real mac n' cheese is a thing of beautiful. Who used to say, "I cry for happy"? helen |

Chicken, or fish, fried or broiled. A three piece dinner ends up with 4-5 pieces and we always got an extra pint of some kind of salad, a to-go container and we had another meal for the next day. ..Sharon |

I got by on less than $40 a day for food during my recent trip to Tokyo. Helped that the hotel had a good buffet breakfast for 800 yen (about eight dollars). serene -- My blog: http://serenejournal.livejournal.com My cooking blog: http://serenecooking.livejournal.com |

I guess if there were something really spectacular, I'd try it. I think most overpriced joints are made for show. $10 for a 4 ounce plate of micro-greens w/vinaigrette doesn't appeal to me. |

![]() > Andy <q> writes: >>While true, how often do folks travel on vacation on a low budjet of $40 >>a day?!? It is not difficult at all to spend less than $40 a day and eat well. You have to know how to travel. and what to look for. Sure, I've spent much more than that at times for one meal, but some of the best food I've ever eaten was less than $10. Last week I took a day trip with my wife. We had breakfast on the way to Gloucester, a light lunch, and then a fantastic seafood dinner at the Causeway restaurant. Total food for the day for the TWO of us was about $55 with tips. Last April in Venice, a couple travelling with us had a lunch (sandwiches!) in San Marcos square for $127, while my wife and I had lunch for $18 including wine. Lunch in Florence cost me close to $100 for the two of us because of the location. For dinner, I walked two streets over and paid less than $10 for a simpler , yet very good dinner for two. If you want to sit on the piazza and dine, you pay for it and pay dearly at some places. |

We may go substantially over for 1 day of the trip but try to stay under that for the remainder of it. -- Cyndi (again) |

Thing is, I didn't actually think I'd go to any of the places she mentioned. I just liked to see where she went. It's apparent you can't take her recommendations seriously. nancy |

Ray's "reviews" of restaurants are completely useless, because she has the same reactions -- the rolling of the eyes, the utterance of "delish!," "wow!" or "yum-o!"; in short, the feigned orgasm -- to everything (I mean EVERYthing) she puts in her mouth. It's unbelievable in the sense that no one loves the taste of everything; and that she sometimes starts her little fake orgasm before she can possibly have really evaluated what she has just taken a nibble of. The uselessness of her restaurant appraisals is my most serious complaint about RR -- although there are plenty of others (e.g., her Pillsbury Doughboy giggle; her general cartoonishness; or the fact that she's obviously wired on something stronger than coffee on some of her more recent shows and TV appearances). |
