Default Another Paula Deen gripe

I watched her again today, first time in a while..
Can't someone at the network teach her how to pronounce Worcestershire?
Every time I heard her say 'woo-ster-shyur', I wanted to smack her.

Brent,
That was lame.. I was born in Georgia and raised in Arkansas and have a
southern accent my own self. It is nothing like her over-done version of a
southern accent though. Puleez..

Maybe you pronounce things that she would find "odd" or "incorrect." I
have heard Worcestershire Sauce pronounced in countless ways. In
England it's "Wooooster-Sauce." I say "Wiss-tah-SHEER" Sauce. Your
aunt Fanny may say "WORSE-Chester-shire sauce. Who the hell cares as
long as you know what it is and when to add it to the recipe?

"Over-done"??? I think she sounds just like some of my mother's
small-town relatives when I was growing up in Arkansas in the fifties.

Like Emeril, I think Paula Deen turns up the accent a notch or two for
the TV's sake.

Karen
p.s. I pronounced Worcestershire sauce the same way Paula does, too.

I thought the dictionary might help with the correct pronunciation
*LAUGHS HEARTILY*

Pronunciation: 'wus-t&(r)-"shir-, -sh&r- also -"shIr-

I'd need to be a frikking English Major to undertand that!

Thankfully she is only on once a day or so unlike Emeril who is on about 4
hours a day. I think her sons look like shiftless morons.

That's a decent Southern approximation.

So, how do *you* pronounce it that's so different - Mr.

How do you guys have the time to count appearances daily? I
spend all of my free time here, not looking at the TV Guide.

Karen,
Hear hear.. that was my point, not necessarily just that one word.. I guess
like someone else mentioned her licking her fingers being gross, and talking
with her mouth full, etc.. I guess her trumped up accent is my pet peeve.

I am not so sure it is trumped up. 90% of my family back in GA. have the same
accent. Georgians like Texans have different dialects in different parts of
the state. Paula sounds like I am home with them for the holidays.

Actually, I do have my computer and tv lined up for easy
viewing... but the computer located in my den, where hubby
watches tv and I don't usually watch what he watches. I
wanted one of those little tv thingies in the corner of the
computer screen. My plan was to have earphones on while I
was on the computer and watch/listen to my programs while I
was online or working, but that plan was over ridden at
ordering time.

I'm not as interested in TV viewing anymore. I watch FoodTV
on the weekends, but don't pay much attention to the
television on weekdays. If I'm home early enough to catch
the Dr. Phil show, I'll turn it on and if the History
Channel is showing something that I'm interested in, I'll
pay attention. That's about it.

I don't need multiple windows, my browser has tabbed viewing
- but why would I want to do that just to count instances of
appearances on FoodTV?

It's much more interesting to read and post to various
newsgroups.
