Default Dinner - Stardate 98625.19

The replicator made me a doctored Tombstone pizza, a bomber of Real
Ale Black Quad, and two Little Debbie Star Crunches (The Official
Dessert of Starfleet Command).

I've also asked it to schedule the Knoor Spinach Dip (add artichokes
and Pecorino Romano) for two hours before stardate 98625.87 when I
wake up (to give the flavors time to meld).

May the force be with you!

**** Knoor.Â* They discontinued my favorite rice side just a few years
after Lipton (their predecessor) discontinued my then favorite rice side.

I feel the same way after Rice-A Roni (The San Francisco Treat)
discontinued their rice mixes right when I moved to The San
Francisco Bay Area from Pennsylvania in <ahem> 1983. All they had in
San Francisco were the Rice-A-Roni noodle shit and MJB was the
premier boxed rice mix. Not the same.

But Knoor/Unilever is HUGE. They're the top 2 processed food
purveyors in the world, along with Heinz/Kraft (followed by Nestle).
And if you talk shit about them here they will hunt you down and
grind you up into a boxed soup mix. Just sayin...

I bought a box of Lipton Beefy Onion Soup mix for my post roast
tomorrow (Jill made me do it). Heat wave coming in predicted to be
30F with possible snow so that's what I'm making.

Speaking of which, you're up kinda late. You're creature of habit.
And even though this is a Saturday/Sunday, what's the deal?

I use the Knorr chicken broth all the time. A bit higher in sodium
than I like but we use it sparsely so it works. Very shelf stable so a
container (16oz) lasts a year.

There's a little neighborhood gift exchange some 8-10 of us do. We
always do it with food items and stick to things most are at least a
bit familiar with. Rule is no more than 5$ (pre-tax) and locally
bought so others can get it.

Simple stuff obviously from the price limit so might be a selection of
pasta sides, or instant flavored mashed potatoes, a fancy mustard and
so on. Previous years we'd meet at one house and do it with a
round-house trade (2 steals max on an item). This year, via Zoom.

I mention it as one of the 'hotter' trades was 2 Knorrs broth bases,
Chicken and Beef. I ended up with a nice simple local made rose table
wine (4.99 on sale) that was suprisingly nice! My offer was a
container of Portabello mushrooms. Simple stuff anyone can use but not
all may have tried or inexpensive 'luxury' items.

A lot are on hard times or fixed incomes so 5$ fits us and makes for a
cheery mini-challange!

Good catch.Â* I spent the evening installing a new ceiling fan.Â* No
pictures - I'm not John and I've installed probably a dozen ceiling fans
in my life.Â* I had to pull an additional wire through the conduit for
the new fan/light switch combo.Â* Good thing I had some wire lube left
over from pulling my new LED pool light wires.

Like John, I try to take Sundays off and go to the range, go fishing,
etc.Â* Unlike John, I work 50 hours per week and commute about five
additional hours per week so it really is a break from work.Â* The
benefits of owning your own company, right?

Oooh. Conduit. Posh. We just have romex pulled through holes
drilled in the ceiling joists.

Now I'll lie awake nights, daydreaming of conduit.

I was lucky.Â* The house was built in 1992 so it might have been code at
the time.

It probably has more to do with location than time. Pulling romex
was and still is code here. IIRC it's not legal in Chicago, for
example. All wiring must be in conduit there, even if it's
flexible conduit.

Or else the electrician was instructed or wanted to use conduit for
some other reason.

In Chicago it's all about the unions.Â* They don't think Joe Blow can run
BX (if they still call it that) or conduit.

I have romex in the walls that I have worked on.Â* They have steel
studs.Â* This is in the vaulted ceiling running through a wood truss.Â*
It's a custom home but it might have been an after thought that another
electrician installed before the drywall went in.Â* I'm just glad it was
there!

Ah. Steel studs. That makes all the difference.
