Milk bankruptcy
https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/comp...id=mailsignout
Dean Foods, America's largest milk producer, is filing for bankruptcy. The 94-year-old company has struggled in recent years because Americans are drinking less cows milk. 2019 has been a particularly brutal: the company's sales tumbled 7% in the first half of the year, and profit fell 14%. Dean Foods stock has lost 80% this year The company, which makes some of the country's most recognizable milk and dairy products, including Dairy Pure, Organic Valley and Land O'Lakes, has blamed its struggles on the "accelerated decline in the conventional white milk category." |

Too many almonds being milked. |

Interesting. For years now, the only time I use dairy milk is for tea and coffee (and even then, not always). I'm guessing many are the same as far as that goes. |

Americans are switching in droves to non-dairy milks such as almond milk or oat milk. Although some people genuinely have difficulty with animal milk (particularly cow's milk which is by far the most common milk in the U.S.), a lot of people are just on the "milk is bad" bandwagon. My husband and I are drinking more milk now than ever (possibly even more than when we were children), but two people can only do so much Cindy Hamilton |

LOL nut milks aren't milk. I, for one, would really miss Land O' Lakes butter. And yes, I drink and cook with cows milk. And cream! I'm not sure exactly what dairy it comes from here in South Carolina. Dean Foods used to have a dairy in midtown Memphis, TN. In fact, until the mid-1980's they still delivered milk and dairy products to the home in some areas. Not by horse drawn cart, though. Jill |

I like almond milk with oatmeal, and sometimes smoothies. Don't know if it technically counts, but I do eat yoghurt daily, also probiotic milk. Used to make my own kefir, but no longer possible due to living in two countries. >Although some people genuinely have difficulty with >animal milk (particularly cow's milk which is by far the most common milk >in the U.S.), a lot of people are just on the "milk is bad" bandwagon. Dairy milk still seems to be popular in Australia, but I think there is a similar trend, albeit to a much lesser degree. Are people using these non-dairy milks for coffee now? (ugh). Soy lattes comes to mind. >My husband and I are drinking more milk now than ever (possibly even >more than when we were children), but two people can only do so much Indeed I must have used gallons of milk as a kid, when I would eat 6 weetbix https://www.weetbix.com.au/ for breakfast and another 6 after school and before dinner. |

Whatever. I happen to like milk. I drink it, I cook with it. I don't quite understand the nut milk bandwagon. If you read the labels, it's mostly water and sugar. There's practically no nutritional value. They have to pump it full of stuff to make it taste like anything. For the label-conscious: Almondmilk (Filtered Water, Almonds), Cane Sugar, Contains Less Than 2% Of: Vitamin & Mineral Blend (Calcium Carbonate, Vitamin E Acetate, Vitamin A Palmitate, Vitamin D2), Sea Salt, Natural Flavor, Sunflower Lecithin, Locust Bean Gum, Gellan Gum, Ascorbic Acid (To Protect Freshness). Not sure why you chose to pick such an unhealthy version of almond milk. This is one brand I buy: Filtered Water, Ground Whole Almonds (2.5%), Tapioca Starch, Mineral Salt (Calcium Carbonate [Ground Limestone]), Salt, Stabiliser (Carrageenan), Emulsifier (Sunflower Lecithin), Natural Flavour. https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/p...ed-almond-milk It's not perfect, but the only alternative is to either buy it freshly made or make it yourself (which is time consuming and expensive). |

When I was a child milk was heavily advertised to 'grow strong bones and teeth' with a recommendation of at least 2 glasses of milk per day. Was this an effort by dairy farmers to increase their profits?? Probably. Was this an effort to by the AMA or the FDA to make sure American children did not suffer malnutrition that children in Europe probably did due to WWII? Probably. Either scenario certainly did no harm to any child's health. And if a person was unfortunate to have a lactose intolerance, then they just didn't drink milk. Enjoying milk is nothing to be ashamed of or for anyone to look down on someone who does like drinking it on a regular basis. |

And I agree it was delicious; I felt like I needed to keep it under lock and key but you're right, it was expensive. At the once-a-month golly whopper flea market at the fairgrounds here there is a guy that brings in all sorts of food items from the Amish in Ohio. One thing is their home churned butter which he gives out samples. Heavenly! But it goes for $9 a pound and I'd want a police escort to my car after buying in case I was mugged. |
