I don't detest them, just a choice not to watch them. I will watch some
Olympic events and I've been to some actual games over the years. Most
on TV are just filler between commercials and the players are all about
money. Oh, they do have much more ability than I have too.

If approached by two friends with extra tickets and one invited me to
championship football game the other to the Symphony orchestra, I'm
going for the music.

Sports are for playing, not for watching. I played football in high
school, but I rarely watch it. I played hockey when I was a kid. Skates
and I never got along, but I used to watch it occasionally. I stopped a
couple years ago when they had that labour dispute.

I would agree. A symphony or theatre tickets would be better. I can't
believe the prices they charge for some sports venues. Riding around
here in the summer I often come across horse shows. I love watching
hunter jumper events, and they are free.

Don't worry, the symphony goers will always have extra tickets. LOL

I agree. The big sports are completely about money. Take the Champions
League soccer final: one bunch of millionaires playing another bunch.
Why should I care which millionaires will win? They also have no ties
to the club they play for, except money ties.

cherry picking is hard work

not surprising that Dave Smith is out in front strenuously defending the
patriarchy

in the end, who should we listen to, Dave Smith or Billie Jean King?
I mean, what does she know about the professional womans athlete's
experience??

Bullshit. A claim was made that "John McEnroe has said he behaved far
more badly but was never penalized for it". I don't follow tennis much,
but it didn't take much research to find out that, in fact, McEnroe had
been suspended for three code violations. There was no cherry picking.
Those examples came from the same source and were all listed together.
We are supposed to have a pity party for the woman who had a temper
tantrum when she got caught breaking the rules, which her coach admitted
doing, and then people started to make claims or to repeat claims that
are apparently not true.

I don't care about pro football, but do watch my alma mater university games. They are
usually on BTN (Big10).

Yep, I have never heard any woman being called a cow where it was a
compliment, it's disgusting IMO, inferring big, slow moving, stupid, and
clumsy, which Serena definitely is not.

Years ago when I worked for Leviton (electrical products) one of the

I've referred to a few women as "Elsie", meant as a compliment.
I think cows are very sexual.

I have no idea what it means in a Brit slang sense, but calling her a bitch
is even worse IMO, I only know what it means in the USA which is stated in
my post.

I've never liked watching college football games until my
daughter attended UVA. Then it was fun to watch but just that one
team.

I think that having a special team and maybe a second choice is
what makes watching football interesting. I don't watch every
game that shows up. My team is NE Patriots. I watch and enjoy
those games. 2nd choice changes from year to year but never my
closest team - Washington Redskins who are the choice with most
people here. Such losers...almost as bad as the Browns.

LOL. Good one! I do enjoy a live symphony though. Never sounds
good on television but quite good in real life. Football is
better watched on TV where you get to see all the plays close up.

Yes, we used to go to some Raiders games before they moved to LA, dh has
gone a few times now that they're back in Oakland, but...I would never
attend another football game in person, geez and he has decided not to
anymore too, the fans are crazy. They've sucked for several years now, I
also think your Patriots are heading into an "also ran" status.
