Default BBC angle on Serena Williams tantrum

Jill, whoever "Byker," is, I am sure most of us know you didn't write this response to "it."

And for Serena, it wasn't racism, it was gender bias, very clearly. No male player in a
tournament has ever been penalized a game point, according to reports. So I, for
one, don't blame her for being angry; I do think her reaction was inappropriate, to say
the least. But I also agree that the referee should have given her a warning.

Who finds this cartoon racist?

I think it's just a caricature. Caricatures always exaggerate
everything. But in today's politically correct world, nothing is
allowed anymore.

Even John McEnroe has said he behaved far more badly but was never
penalized for it. It was a shame it all spoilt the joy the Japanese
girl should have been having, for that I would criticize Serena.

John McEnroe was disqualified in 1990 for three code violations.
In 1995, Jeff Tarrango was suspended after yelling at spectators and
accused the umpire of corruption.Irena Spirlea was disqualifed for
using abusive language against officials. Andre Agassi was disqualifed
for ball abuse ad verbal abuse. David Nalbandian was disqualifed foir
for injuring an official and kicking an advertising sign. Darian King
was disqualified when he three his racquet and hit a lineswoman. Earlier
this year Yan Marti was disqualified for pointing his racquet at his
opponent and saying "You can put this in your butt."

cherry picking is hard work

not surprising that Dave Smith is out in front strenuously defending the
patriarchy

in the end, who should we listen to, Dave Smith or Billie Jean King?
I mean, what does she know about the professional womans athlete's
experience??

Bullshit. A claim was made that "John McEnroe has said he behaved far
more badly but was never penalized for it". I don't follow tennis much,
but it didn't take much research to find out that, in fact, McEnroe had
been suspended for three code violations. There was no cherry picking.
Those examples came from the same source and were all listed together.
We are supposed to have a pity party for the woman who had a temper
tantrum when she got caught breaking the rules, which her coach admitted
doing, and then people started to make claims or to repeat claims that
are apparently not true.

Double what Nancy2 said. We've watched the bias for years with
several examples during this Open.

Nancy2, I don't get the BBC channel so how would I know about their
"angle" on Serena Williams? Even if I did, I sure wouldn't post about
it here. The forged posts just keep getting more lame.

OB Food: Spaghetti with Italian sausage.

I did a three cheese penne using white cheddar, asiago and parmesan,
but did it mac and cheese style, baking it with a topping of melted
butter, bread crumbs and freshly grated parmesan. It was served with a
green salad.

For those that shop at Costco, Lake Country Asiago Cheese is the
bomb. And only about $5/lb - the same price as you mass produced
generic Kraft.

Good tip for Costco shoppers. I can find asiago cheese at Publix. Just
have to remember to put it on my list. I'll see if there is something
similar to Lake Country brand at my local grocery store.

I was in Costco a couple weeks and I guess I was wrong about which of
their cheeses my wife really liked. I got a good sized chunk of the
wrong old cheddar and a fair sized wedge of Asiago. It seemed like a
good way to use up the cheese.

Check out the article linked below. Ramos is a well respected judge who
enforces the rules strictly. Earlier in the season he penalized Novak
Djokovic and Marco Cecchinato for smaller infractions. Of the 32 code
violations called 23 of them were against men and only 9 against women.
Why should he have given her a warning instead of the penalty. She had
already been caught being coached. The coach admitted he had been doing
it and his excuse was that everyone does it. Then she smashed her
racquet. There is no question about that. When called on that one she
confronted the judge. Sorry, but in my books someone who gets caught
might possibly merit a warning. Someone who gets caught a second time
deserves the penalty. Calling out the judge who has already hit you with
two penalties???? Nope... she deserved it.

One serious e-mailed comment to a newspaper article said that a white
cartoonist shouldn't have drawn that cartoon, which is carrying cultural
appropriation to ridiculous levels!
I thought the cartoon was OK, not that I care a ff about tennis, which
is more boring than US football.

If I absolutely had to choose, I'd rather watch tennis than any
footbal that's played mainly with the hands.

Actually, I detest both and would rather watch bread dough rise!

Detest is a strong word for a sport you're not interested in.

I rarely watch any sports, a World Cup game and last weekend some
Spruce Meadows Horse Jumping.

To each their own. I can watch limited amounts of tennis on TV, but I
have played a number of racquet sports. I don't care for hockey or
football, and I can't understand how anyone could watch baseball. The
only sports I usually watch are equestrian events, even dressage.
