It certainly seems more acceptable, men are just being tough or
aggressive ... things men are praised for.

People are acting like Serena stole someone's kid. She had enough
of the double standard and just lost it. No reason to be going on
and on like she should be crucified.

But there was no double standard. Some people have suggested that thee
is but the fact is that a lot more men than women have been sanctioned
for similar violations. She got caught violating the rules and she acted
like a spoiled child.

The audience also misbehaved like a bunch of sore losers. The Japanese
player even ended up apologising for winning.

These athletes are the best in the world. They didn't get there by being passive and laid back. Mostly, Serena took a hit because her coach wouldn't stop coaching her. He or she is a big dummy. I don't have any problem with a player breaking stuff out of frustration. It makes for a more memorable match. If one wants to make a more successful open, you need to break some rackets.

Male tennis players, not just one, have come forward to say they do
the same thing and nothing happens.

Regardless, the judge is a grown man, boo hoo, Serena yelled at him.

And because of her bad behaviour she lost a game. Boo hoo.

I provided a list of male players who were suspended code violations,
and that is more severe than what she got. I also referred to an article
that showed that of 32 similar incidents, 23 penalties were assessed
against men and only 9 against women. It may be that some men got away
with things, but there are many where they were penalized.

so you've read some articles, Dave to support your position. If you
were a tennis fan and had watched the matches, both men and women, for
years your arguments would carry more weight..

Just last week I checked the prices for a ticket to get into the
various team venues. I was astonished to see that tickets went from a
low of $30 to over $200. That's without the hot dog and beer.
You get a better seat at home. For that kind of money you can get a
TV that covers your living room wall and allows you to count the
blades of grass or flakes of snow and have better food ;-)

Good point - I don't watch tennis but over the years noticed the
countless times McEnroe was shown misbehaving. As far as I know, this
was a first for Serena.

We made some for lunch too. Just seemed right.

28oz tomato sauce
28oz crushed tomatos
16oz rotel tomatoes
2lbs ground beef
1/2 cup or so chopped onion
3tb cuban spice mix
Extra garlic powder and minced

A nice deep flavor of meat sauce, served over the only pasta I had
(small shells).

Makes about 9 cups sauce and with 3 of us, that means 3 meals pretty
much (2 leftover after today night).

Same here. PLaying sports is fun. Watching them can be pretty dull
outside the olympics and the winter sports like Ice Skating

You know I wouldn't, brought up under the 'It's not whether you win or
lose, but how you play the game' principles. I was very sad she
spoilt it for Osaka.

Next year, don't play any matches. Just give Serena the title.
Everybody happy.

You might believe that Serena smashing her racquet and then blowing up was totally unrelated to the warning her coach got for coaching during the match. That's what everyone believes. I don't. That's all I got to say about that.

What a neat trick to tell him to check his facts in a way that you are
not directly saying he is wrong, because it looks like he had the facts
right. He admitted that he was coaching her, but tried to defend it by
saying that everyone does it and that she might not have seen him.

When someone claims that the men are never penalized like that and I
come up with a list of men who were penalized..... that is relevant.
