Yep, a person who only thinks of themselves and does not think about the
pain and lifetime heartache and questions they leave behind.

Sometimes the note explains it all.

Did he leave a note? I know Kate Spade did but they have not released
the contents yet. Or if they have I haven't read it yet.

I don't know about either of them, but I do know that some people opt for
assisted suicide with the full support of their families when ill. I
couldn't venture a guess as to why someone chooses to end their life, many
times for something only known to them. I have nothing but compassion for
these troubled souls.

I can, under certain circumstances, understand assisted suicide. I've
seen people in bed in extreme pain from cancer for weeks. They are not
going to be cured or get any better. If they want to cut short a couple
of weeks, good for them.

Easy to be critical of others but I'm not going to condemn them. I have
no idea what is going on in their head or why. It certainly is not
normal.

I agree with you Ed, all this speculation about a person nobody here
really knows! I can't believe someone takes that step without really
believing its for the best, therein lies the tragedy for him and all
his family.

I believe firmly in assisted death but we are still in the early
stages here in Canada, hope we progress to the level of the
Netherlands and Switzerland quickly.

Yes. I hope Australia progresses to the level of the Netherlands
before I'll ever need it. It's really sick to force people to suffer
and then die.

Very often when individuals are terminal and in pain they are not
really living anyway. And that's why some folks have a DNR (Do Not
Resusitate), they do not want to be kept artificially alive
only to be placed on a feeding tube and live perhaps another week in
and out of a drug induced coma. For some being put out of their
misery quickly is a better alternative than Hospice.

That often leaves the Power of Attorney to make the decision when the
time comes. My father was PoA for his sister and when his time was
running low on time he made arrangements for me to take it over. A few
months after he died I had a phone call at about 4 am on a Sunday
morning from a doctor in a hospital telling me that my aunt had had a
(another) stroke and that he had noted I was the new PoA and he asked if
the DNR was still in effect. I asked him to call me back in 10 minutes.
He did that, and I told him that those were her wishes when we was
competent to choose the DNR, so, yes, it stood. They kept her as
comfortable as they could for a few days until she died.

Meanwhile, I had to deal with my cousin and her crazy ideas. Had she
been competent she would have had the PoA instead of me.
