Red Beans & Rice:
https://s13.postimg.org/v82d6nft3/rb_r.jpg Today I still had a hankering for beef so I browned a couple of chopped round patties, then slow cooked them in the oven (covered the baking dish with foil for about 40 minutes) in beef gravy: https://s13.postimg.org/rogfh52w7/choppedinoven.jpg Plated: https://s13.postimg.org/ab6528pkn/ch...steakgravy.jpg Jill |

Easy and tasty. I used that old tupperware hamburger press my mother gave me to form the patties. Now I have more leftover mashed potatoes. Oh dear, should I make potato pancakes (yes, it calls for an egg) again? Should I call them potato croquettes? Hmmmmm. Jill |

You're the one who somehow got the idea that I was going to move in with you - and you posted that to RFC just out of the total blue. After having met you twice at casual austin.food gatherings 2 or 3 years ago and not giving you any indication that there was any sort of romantic interest in the least, you somehow twisted that into MY MOVING IN WITH YOU? That was just way too Psycho for me. I sat there at stared at the screen for at least 15 minutes wondering, WTF? That was just way too spooky. I'd prefer you use a sniper rifle on me from a few hundred yards away. There you go - a reason for you to buy yet another gun and ammo. And Jeremy, I was just tired of your decade of bullshit and visions of grandeur about all these things you're "working on" or have not done in the past. Even posting a call for meetings with imaginary people about imaginary projects of yours at "the normal time and place", as if you are somebody important with a life. True enough. Besides, if I'd done it on the stovetop I'd have had to keep an eye on it, perhaps stir it. The electric burners on this old stove aren't always consistent. Put it in the oven, all I have to do is set the timer and go do other things for a while. ![]() Jill |

In fact when I made my last lot yesterday I had it on a table a bit near a radiator and it just about climbed out. I don't usually put it there but I was busy with other cooking and needed it out of the way. |

IMO, at those temps the dough needs to be fed again with some fresh flour. But what do I know, no-knead isn't really my wheelhouse. You need to do a Ping. Janet US |

I saw hoods (optional) that tyou could place above them and those vented outside, but that's not the same as the stove doing so. Thats an optional cover piece. |

Pots left on those burners will heat up. |

THats also not the same thing as venting 'outside' as in outdoors as was indicated by the thread? Carol |

Someone upstream commented about heat from an oven not being wasted because it helped heat the house, to which a rocket scientist responded that it was an inefficient way to heat and that in SC all ovens are vented outside. |

It's a great location for warming plates. Cindy Hamilton |

My gas stove vents the oven through slots on the back of the cooktop (a 9" vent right in the center). Then there is a plain hood over cooktop. On the wall between hood and cooktop is a vent to the outside with an exhaust fan. |

There will be a vent somewhere that allows heat to escape from the oven. Stoves with electric coil burners usually vent through one of the element pots. Glass tops often have a grill on the the console. The claim was that ovens have to be vented outside in SC. All ovens are already vented into the kitchen. |

Electric cooktops or ranges can have those pitiful recirculating fans. Cindy Hamilton |
