Default Lipton onion soup pot roast

I was thinking about my mother and some of her favorite Sunday meals
for after church. One was the Lipton Onion soup pot roast. I never
had anything to do with putting that together. I looked on the 'Net
but can't find the recipe. Does anyone remember how this was done?
There's probably better 'Net detectives than me.
Thanks

I didn't realize there were so many different recipes for this.
Mother's was very simple, no veggies, no crock pot.

It was Golden Mushroom canned soup.

My mom, my friend's moms and my husband all did it the same way. Roasted in
the oven with potatoes and carrots. I don't like the ingredients in the
onion soup mix so never did it that way. I use real onions.

Lipton's web site probably has a recipe. When I was using it - crock
pot only however, all I did was pour the soup mix pack contents in with
the other ingredients and start cooking. Cooking with the crock pot, I
didn't find it necessary to add water.

A few years ago, I watched an episode of America's Test Kitchen in
which they showed what ingredients to use to make an alternative onion
soup mix for use in cooking. Perhaps that episode is available for
viewing at their web site. Don't know for sure however. It seemed
like their recipe was fairly simple and straightforward to do.

My mom mostly made it with the onion soup mix and tomato juice in the old
days. I liked it better with the cream of mushroom soup, but then I like a
lot of the old recipes that use canned soup etc.

Cream of mushroom gets another up vote!

So versatile, and if one's an onion fan their cream of onion rocks too.

Yes, now that I'm recalling one of the recipes she used, it was dry onion
soup, a can of Campbell's Golden Mushroom soup and some beef broth for the
pot roast. I like a lot of the soup recipes from the old days, very handy
and tasty IMO.

Funny how people point to that time as being not known for much originality.

I found dozens of cool recipes on their pages.

there may have been cream of mushroom soup. All I remember was the
packet of soup and wrapping the whole thing in foil. You put it in a
pan into the oven for a number of hours. That's what I couldn't find
when I was search the 'Net. Knowing my mother, what she made would
have been the first iteration of the method. She always tried new
stuff.

Well let's see about that one too.

How about?

http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/p...recipe-1948791

Ingredients

3 cups thinly sliced Vidalia onions
3 tablespoons butter, melted
1 (9-inch) prebaked deep-dish pie shell
2 eggs, beaten
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/2 cup milk
1 1/2 cups sour cream
1 teaspoon kosher salt
4 slices bacon, crisply cooked and crumbled

I wager you can add in Lipton onion soup mix and get a bang up pie!

Or:

http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/v...recipe-1946720

Ingredients

Crust:
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon kosher or Hawaiian salt
1/4 cup cold all-vegetable shortening, cut into small pieces
1/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
Cold water

Filling:
1/4 egg yolk and 1 teaspoon water for egg wash
1/2 cup unsalted butter
2 pounds Vidalia onions, thinly sliced
3 large eggs, beaten
1 cup sour cream
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon kosher or Hawaiian salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Freshly grated Parmesan

Btw, this next link is page 7 of a wealth of onion soup mix recipes that
Lipton has online, sadly no onion pie though:

http://www.liptonkitchens.com/recipe...-dishes?page=7

But there are some really great dishes in these pages, enjoy!

Thanks everyone for your help. I may just do this for nostalgia.

I remember making this as a teenager when my Mom broke her leg and I had to cook. Did it in foil with a can of cream of mushroom soup and the soup mix.

I've refined it through the years and now my favorite is in a dutch oven on the stovetop or in the oven. I use a nice thick chuck roast, browned well, one packet of soup mix, a cup or so of a good red wine, a cup or two of beef stock, black pepper and a bit of thyme. Cover and simmer on the stovetop or bake in the oven, your choice, until the roast is completely tender. Remove roast, reduce the liquid a bit, add the can of cream of mushroom soup and mix thoroughly, simmer a bit to thicken. Makes the best gravy/sauce.

Now I'm hungry for this......need to go get a chuck roast !!!! LOL

Isn't it on the onion soup package? Pretty sure it is because my husband
made it and he doesn't have any recipes.

If I had a box in the house I could have checked and then I wouldn't
have had to bother you all. But, just in case, I checked the box when
I was in the store and nope, no recipe for the pot roast on the box.

I'm not sure crock pots were born yet when she made the roast.

My mother would use an electric skillet set on the lowest possible
temperature, lid on, and forget about it. When we came home from
church, Sunday dinner was ready.
