It is sad you can't grow them, but at least you can buy them so you are not
without

The okra that I've tasted in soups are pretty weak so I find it non-offensive. I do like a little bitter melon when eating at Chinese restaurants. That tastes like munching on aspirin. :-)

Asparagus is some pretty funny stuff. We don't really eat turnips much on this rock. I can't say what they taste like. Funny, eh?

Typically you wouldn't see the lamps from the air since they're used indoors with the idea of keeping a low profile. My guess is most of these indoor growers get caught because they're using tremendous amounts of electricity.

That too, but I read they can 'see' the unusual heat spots too.

What they usually do around here is to use an unoccupied house and then
bypass the electricity meter in order to get free power to hide the
excessive use.

The cops here were using an infra-red camera to spot "hot" houses that
were likely grow-ops. IIRC, the civil liberties crowd made them stop the
practice.

Say, you're right about that! Thanks for the info. When I went to college, all my slacker friends was in the College of Tropical Agriculture. I didn't understand because that meant they were thinking of being farmers. When I was in high school with them, I never saw any hint of them being interested in being out in the fields. I was thinking "Green Acres" but they were thinking something else.

My friend said that he used to be able to grow a plant that was mostly all buds and the thing would be glistening with a heavy coating of beads of resin. That must have been some plant! OTOH, that guy was all paranoid most of the time. He said helicopters would be flying overhead frequently. These are the trials and tribulations of the dope grower.

yes, but income taxes were very low and applies to very few. They were
increased to make up for the lost alcohol taxes, and that was a big selling
point to get prohibition passed.

Really? Any house in UK with no snow on the roof just indicates they don't
have any proper insulation)

These days, that ALONE would justify SWAT teams dropping in by helicopter
for a raid to set the offenders straight.

Yes, and the Irish have peat roofs (so their sheep can graze atop!), and the thrifty hardy Scots have thrifty hardy slate roofs...is this not all true?

LOL. Yes, because they grow their weed outdoors using indoor lamps...
<rolls eyes>.

They look for the infrared heat signatures using something called
FLIR.

One doco I watched claimed 1 in 10 houses in BC have grow rooms.

I have in the past, and I do now too. And I will in subsequent years.

Then it wasn't very potent... mine are only just starting to bud now,
and you can most certainly smell them from a distance.

That was the wave of the future back in the early 70s. As was drip
irrigation and soy beans. I suppose people were right about that.

Unless lawmakers were clairvoyant, Victorian laws were made in the
19th century.

I stand corrected JeBus. Americans currently enjoy a smorgasboard of
recreational drugs including narcotics. I should not insinuate that
our outdated laws were created by Queen Victoria. They were created by
American politicians in the wake of the "Victorian Era".

What is so ridiculus in the year 2015 is that Marijuana is about the
only substance that is still illegal while millions of Americans are
hooked on legally written Prescriptions for Narcotic drugs. People buy
Marijuana on the street. The government is not stopping them from
smoking.

They aren't?? Half the prison population in the US are in there for drug
offences. Of those, 27% are for marijuana. That translates to about
12% of the prison population being for marijuana. Compare that to 0.4%
for financial crimes, 4% for burglary and property offences
2.8% for homicide, aggravated assault and kidnapping, 3.8% for robber
and 6.1% for sex offences.
