Default Merry Christmas Eve!

I'm sipping some OZ shiraz and babysitting a new pot of minestrone.
Ooh... put on some Xmas music and maybe a streaming video of a
fireplace (are't those creepy!?).

Merry Christmas to you all and may you be cooking something to eat or
already eating something you cooked.

Merry merry, nb! I'm not cooking tonight.

I don't have a traditional Christmas menu. I did remember to thaw the
lamb shoulder chops. Christmas dinner will be broiled lamb chops,
boiled new potatoes with rosemary and steamed broccoli.

I had thought to (charcoal) grill the lamb but it's been raining for
days so that's not going to happen. Broiler it is!

I prepare the lamb very simply. Season with salt and pepper. Rub with
crushed garlic and rosemary, thyme, oregano. I think I'll throw in some
rubbed sage. (I'm using dried herbs.) Sprinkle with lemon juice and
brush lightly with oil. Let set for a bit, then broil the chops to
desired doneness.

I like lamb chops about medium-rare. This will give me a chance to test
the new digital thermometer I got (thanks, Santa!). I don't generally
use thermometers for things like this but these chops are thick enough
to try it out.

At any rate I know it will be a delicious meal. Merry Christmas nb and
everyone! I hope you all have wonderful meals, too.

merry christmas to you too nb.

We had our old neighbours over for supper. They are still in the midst
of getting settled in their new place. We had a steak and mushroom pie.
My wife made the filling and I made the crust. She roasted potatoes,
steamed some beans and made a green salad. Dessert was a fruit salad and
an assortment of shortbreads, brownies and mincemeat.

Christmas supper is at my brother's place tomorrow. Our son is staying
with us for a few nights. He works 12 hour shifts so it allows him to
spend some time here without travelling back and forth from his place.
We had a rolled turkey breast for him and one of our nephews last night.
We will make a special breakfast tomorrow but he has to be on his way
to work by 11 am.

Merry Xmas to everyone!

Our experience is a little different -- I haven't cooked a thing in two
weeks. 8 or 8;( ???

We're down in St. Martin. No cooking, but still eating very well indeed,
and drinking far too much.

Xmas isn't nearly so big a deal down in the islands. Some stocking caps,
and some bands playing xmas carols on steel drums, but much lower key
overall. Plus the holiday trappings didn't show up at all until this
past week, which was *so* nice.

We did see a taxi on St. Barth's with a menorah on top, and a sign
saying "Happy Hanukah", though I missed getting a picture.

This is about as big a deal as it gets down he

You are visiting one of my favorite places. Go to Maho Beach, where the
airplanes come in for a landing, right over your head, so hang onto your
hat. You can find the plane schedule online, or when you are facing the
beach, there is a bar on the left that has the plane schedule written on
a chalkboard. The large planes usually arrive in the afternoon. There
is a nude beach on the French side called Cupecoy Beach, it is a small,
crescent shaped beach and a lot of foreigners go there. Merry Christmas
and enjoy your visit.

Actually, most of Cupecoy is on the Dutch side. And the best nude
beaches are up on Orient Bay.

Though these days, you see frequent topless and occasional nudity almost
everywhere on the island, depending on who's around (i.e., families with
children, etc.)

This is our fifth year down here for the holidays. We generally rent a
condo in Sandy Ground, below Marigot, on the lagoon side. We only go to
the Dutch side one day each visit, to remind ourselves how glad we are
that we don't have to deal with the cruise ship hordes, and to do a bit
of shopping, and maybe to Skipjack's for lunch.

It's interesting to see the evolution of restaurants these days. Lots of
"tapas" this year, though they really don't get the concept right. And
vegetables are *so* limited, and expensive. Pureed carrots on almost
every plate you see.
