Default Green beans for all

For lunch today, we went to a bbq place that always has great
green beans, and they don't skimp. Today I ordered
a dinner size meal and they didn't disappoint with the
pile of beans. Most of them are in my refrigerator now,
along with most of the brisket:

As great as they were, truth be told, today they could
have stayed in the boiling water maybe another 15 seconds.
Still delicious, not complaining.

Now THAT is a great looking plate!

If the cornbread is half as moist as it looks you had a real treat there
too.

The green beans look good. Whad did they season them with. Green beans are pretty much my favorite green vegetable. I like to blanch them and shock cool them and keep them in the fridge. Then I saute them in butter, maybe some garlic if I feel like it and season them depending on what I am having them with.

My favorite bought seasoning for green beans and some other things is Nature's Seasons. It is a McCormick seasoned salt that has a nice flavor with the beans. It makes a mean chicken salad too.

I feel like it's garlic and black pepper and something reddish
with a little kick.

>Green beans are pretty much my favorite green vegetable.

It never really occurred to me, it's not what I would have said
if asked what was my favorite vegetable, but I really do love
green beans. Fresh, not canned.

I do that, stir in minced garlic and I can't keep my hands off
them.

I'll have to look for it. Thanks.

I took out the leftovers, I don't see anything lumpy or sheeny
on the brisket. The beans have spices on them, no not salt,
nor do they taste salty.

I saw an Asian style recipe (it's not really Asian) that appealed to
me and thought of you:

Yappy is the quintessential voyeur. He blows up posted images to find
a reflection of the poster so he can make a disparaging remark. In
Nancy's case, he found nothing - so he could only make a remark about
some random, stupid thing. Poor baby.

Everybody else thought her picture was great, but he couldn't help
himself. He needs to think of himself as the best photographer on
rfc. Never mind that Koko has blown him out of the water. He has to
find fault with the images of others so he can prove to himself that
HE is the best. As a result, he is a glaring reason why more people
don't post images on RFC.

Is Steve Wertz a group killer? Obviously he is! Bask in the glory,
Yappy.

The question remains: What will our porky little Su Mai do with
himself (discounting court ordered "volunteerism", of course) after he
has killed off every group he participates in.

Oh, thank you.

The lighting situation was far from optimal, very
bright light coming from all the windows on one
side, very dark room on the other side, the table was
right there on the border. I wasn't trying to get a
great shot, just being discreet since people seem to
be irritated by people photographing their food.

Pah! The problem is those who are nasty and pull the pics to pieces!
Really they are not worth reading! I always enjoy food pics so please
don't be put off. We are here to cook and discuss cooking (pics and all)
and not to be professional photographers!

Hee, me too and I already ate some! I hope the place
sticks around, even though I don't live close by, I enjoy
making the trip there for the food and the atmosphere.

There's another bbq place closer, the food gets a lot of
positive feedback but I like food at this other place better.
Part of me wonders if it's because the close place is in what
appears to be a former ice cream place or dry cleaners, only
with less aesthetic appeal. That kind of thing matters to
me, I guess.

People here don't represent the general public. Most people don't
give a flip if you snap a quick picture of your food or not. I take
pictures of my food all the time and never even get a sideways glance.
I'm not disturbing anyone when I do it, so nobody cares. If they had
the nerve to make noises about it to me, I'd tell them to mind their
own business. I paid for it and I can take a snapshot if I want.
I've learned that servers are proud of what they put on the table.
One example is a restaurant we ate at in Vancouver (dining outside by
the fireplace), enjoyed the entire meal. I forget now if it was the
appetizer or dessert that was so pretty (and tasted as good as it
looked). I commented to hubby that I should have taken a picture of
before we demolished it. The waitress happened to be passing the
table and caught what I said. She stopped and told me the next time
someone ordered one, she'd bring it by so I could take a picture of
it... and she did! That certainly increased her tip.

I have heard some backlash about it (not me, personally), such
as restaurants forbidding it and other people bitching about it.

I hardly ever do it, it nothing else I don't have my camera
with me all the time, phone either. I brought it this time
with the express purpose of getting a shot of my perfect
green beans.

Those look delicious! Ginger and garlic, one of my

Those white specks look like very finely minced or granulated garlic,
they're on both the meat and the beans... were it salt it would have
dissolved unless added seconds prior to shooting the picture. I'd
like to know what that cake looking thing is, looks like it could be
some sort of potato pudding/kugle/rice pudding? Whoever sliced the
meat did a neat job.

I've never seen anyone disturb fellow diners to get a food shot, but
I've read that bloggers in the past (and who knows how many really did
it then) had gone into fashionable and very expensive restaurants,
ordered a meal and then proceeded to set up shots with tripod,
lighting, standing on their chairs etc. *That* is ridiculous. The
restaurant owners/managers asked them to make midday appointments for
that type of food photography and I think it's an entirely reasonable
request.

I like to take pictures of my food, but I'm also mindful of the
surroundings and atmosphere. I don't use a flash when I take a
picture and I won't whip out my phone to take a food shot when we're
paying what amounts to hundreds of dollars for a meal. Normal people
just don't do that.

This article is about Michelin rated restaurants in NYC, not BBQ
joints in Arkansas, but I like the solution one restaurant has come up
with: diners will get digital images of what they've eaten via
computer. I think it's a good compromise, more places should do that.

That "cake looking thing" is a square of cornbread.

I don't think he knows what cornbread looks like. I spotted it right
off the bat and wondered if it was sweet cornbread.

I haven't done a scientific analysis, but there was garlic
on the beans, for sure.

Corn bread. It was very tasty, I finished that off. Funny,
I ate the cornbread with a fork, but the green beans I eat with
my fingers like fries.

So I can't say thank you that he complemented my plate of
food?

At least twice I have mentioned that they have garlic, pepper and
some red spice that has a minor kick. Maybe not in this thread,
but I didn't feel the need to say it again, I was pointing out
how I like my beans to look, done-wise.

It wasn't.

That part of the country makes a fluffy, almost cake-like cornbread.
You'll have to ask Nancy to know if it was sweet and like cake.

Nancy already identified it as cornbread. It was merely her locale and
curiosity which made me wonder if it was sweet. It didn't look cake
like at all, to me. <shrugs>

His computer monitor needs to be dusted. The crap he and Sheldon are
dishing out is a prime example of why there are so few pictures and so
little real food discussion in rfc.

As if their photos are so magazine ready! Yes, I really love seeing
pictures of burgers piled so high you can't take a bite out of them
without wearing a sheet. The pork roast looked good, good price, too.
But, cat lover that I am, I never EVER let my cat take a bite off my plate.

Looks much different now. On my monitor (the original) looks like the
beans were sprinkled with salt or parmesan. The corn bread looks like
a lemon bar or a square of custard.
