This is wonderful news, but it fills me with fear to know that with you today's extreme happiness will only lead to extreme sadness on the morrow. I can't wait to see what goes wrong with the toaster. Not rooting for it to go down, only saying I will be here to read your complaints and respond to them as they come in. And if it happens with the toaster I will be the first to remind me of how happy you were the day it arrived and how exuberantly you displayed that happiness for all on this group to see. Your future is toast, TJ |

Black and Decker is not a "no-name". I like that I can drill holes and cut wood with it, along with toasting. |

I never bought a new toaster in my life and haven't had one for years although my stepmom bought be a toaster oven about 10 years ago and I'm still using it. I buy the Harris Teeter brand of frozen french rolls, take them home and let them thaw in the fridge. They call them take and bake, but I could tell they were already cooked. It's not like raw dough. I cut them in half horizontally and put them in the toaster oven and they're perfect. I am not a toaster expert, not by a long shot. TJ |

With a shot of Jack to wash it down? I don't have any marmalade. Whenever I hear the word "marmalade" that I think of Marmaduke. I don't think I would like marmalade. Unless it was on Marmaduke. Sounds like this is a case where you really do need to "ask for directions" because it could be located anywhere. It really is a good bread, expensive... but worth it. -- Food is an important part of a balanced diet. |

Short cord, I can understand. Long cords aren't necessary in modern kitchens with up to date codes. The cord placement makes it sound like the unit is meant to go lengthwise against the wall. Nasty surprises like that are why I don't like to buy things sight unseen over the internet. -- Food is an important part of a balanced diet. |

Short cords are a safety feature. Toasters typically have short cords, they are high wattage appliances and longer cords can become hot unless they are a heavier gauge... a better quality toaster would have a 3' cord of a heavier gauge but it would cost at least three times as much... what did you expect from a $16 toaster? Years ago B&D made quality products, but no more... B&D doesn't manufacture anything anymore, they've become a marketer. That's a no-name toaster from the orient with a B&D label. If you bought that same toaster in the stupidmarket housewares aisle it would have a different name and cost $9.98. |

It's ok just a bit odd it is so short. I will just have to push it back to the wall... I thought I burned my toast earlier, but apparently there are chemicals that need to burn off. Smelled like burning plastic first time I used it. |

Here come those complaints I was predicting. I have to admit I wonder the same thing with some appliances. I bought a blender for the first time in years about a month ago - $25 Oster, Walmart - works ok for what I need - but the cord is incredibly short. I'm living in an apartment building that went up in 1925, it's not like there's an outlet on every wall. But even within only a foot or two of a wall plug in the kitchen the wire just barely makes it to the outlet. I have seen this with other items. I am not making excuses for the people who manufacture these products, but I'm assuming there's got to be a reason why they make their plug wires so short. Maybe they're in cahoots with the extension-cord people. TJ |

Maybe they're in >cahoots with the extension-cord people. For safety reasons they no longer want to encourage leaving countertop appliances plugged in all the time. And don't use an extension cord, especially with a toaster, or with any appliance in the kitchen (or bathroom). They also don't want folks moving such appliances to the edge of the counter, and certainly not near sinks; "they" meaning the fire underwriters lab... especially important not to override electrical safety features living in a nearly hundred year old building, wiring can be very old and inadequate, and you may not have GFI protected circuits. You shouldn't own a toaster oven, of all household appliances the toaster oven is most likely to cause house fires. |

My next door neighbors (and their door is side by side of mine) caused a fire because of their toaster oven many years ago. It scared the hell out of me coming home and seeing all my neighbors outside waiting for the fire dept. to arrive. This was on a Saturday night. I didn't have renter's insurance then but I went right out the next Monday morning and added it to my policy. (True) Since then, my place now requires every tenant to have insurance. I bought mine many years before it was required. It's a good investment anyway....not very expensive at all. Gary PS - stupid-ass tenants burning candles is another big fire hazard. |
