Default ANOTHER APPLIANCE

It was late night, I couldn't sleep,
and I found myself watching the
Express ( griddle? ) info-mercial.

It looked like a waffle iron with two pockets,
and they had a dozen units on the table.

In the demo, they made everythig from omelets,
to grilled chicken, to dessert cake.
( all for 2 payments of $19.95 )

By the time they were done, I was almost sold.
It DID look easy and convenient... ( for 1 or 2 people )

Has anyone seen the commercial ? bought the product ?
Any opinions? good or bad ?

You couldn't have been paying much attention... you don't even know
the correct name of the item, so I can't even look it up... no matter,
you need another dumb kitchen appliance like you need a terminal
illness.

But did they make anything you couldn't make on the stove with a pan
and a lid? Some of those gadgets have a heating element in the top so
they cook "both sides at once," sort of. But I have after many years
of patient practice actually learned how to turn things over in a pan,
so that feature is unnecessary. -aem

I guess there are for people who were born heat deprived and can not turn on
a stove or use a pan.

LOLOL!!!

I might add if you're still hung up on $19.95 instead of $20, you're a
stupid consumer.

Not you, Dimitri!

I've bought a couple of things from TV in the past due to insomnia
too... but learned I'm never happy with what I buy. I also know
there's a store called "As Seen On TV", so I googled it and "Express".
This might be what you're talking about

Yes...YES !! That's the gadget.

Thanks so much for your ( useful ) reply.

"GT Express" isn't exactly a memorable name for a grill.

They were using it
to make everything from apples to zucchini.....
Late night, all gadgets look attractive. ;o)

I have not seen the "Express" but I do have the electric grill made by
Proctor Silex that is similar to the George Foreman Grill, but cheaper.
I use it a lot.

It's quick because it cooks the top and bottom of the food at the same
time...so, a salmon filet, for instance, takes about five minutes and
comes out with the nice grill marks on it. Great for burgers, chicken
tenders, pork chops...

Still, I cant say it really does any better than a good cast iron
skillet.

I LOVE kitchen gadgets. It's not safe for me to watch infomercials of
any kind. Especially at night when Ive had two or three glasses of
wine....

No one else mentioned the price... Andy, you're the only stupid

Sure, but it's all relative. I think they are less so than the shows
hawking those very same items. I don't like TV or Internet shopping
of unknown items. I'm not the mail order type either.

Stifle your impulse, RJ. I'll bet you can make a stovetop omelet faster
than it takes that thing to heat up. Stifle yourself. It's one more
thing to wash carefully and store. Stifle.

I had a similar gadget in college, nominally
a sandwich maker, but I also made omelets and
burritos in it. Sure, you can do a lot with it
if that's all you got, but anybody with a kitchen
has much better ways to accomplish the same thing.
It's like comparing a skateboard against a car.

The Nuwave oven is much more attractive to me,
but I remember the poor reputation of a very
similar oven, the Jet Stream oven from American
Harvest. You don't see ads for that product
anymore. If the ovens were any good, they'd still
be running the informercial.

Maybe Orlando plays the piano, too, but he's not a PENISt like

Isn't this sweet - seeing the two Village Idiots arguing about such
a petty matter. And they're both wrong.

They're only $19.95 each. Two payments buys you two of them.

The Magic Bullet is marketed that way. After psyching you up
to buy one, they try to push you over the edge by offering to
give you TWO for the price of one, a $XXX savings!

Such humanitarians should be administering the charitable
bequests of Bill Gates and Warren Buffet, not selling
Chinese crap appliances on UHF TV.

It seems like a form of multilevel marketing, by placing
a burden on the customer to find someone to whom to sell
the extra machine or to give it away.

So what? You can't buy one for $19.95. It's two payments or no
gizmo. You figure out what to do with the other one.

Maybe they sell two so buyers will have a back up after the first one
immediately konks out.

Save your money. It's just another item which does what you can prob.
already accomplish with the tools you own. Why tie up money and space
with something which will probably konk out after a couple of years?.
Have I talked you out of it yet?
