Things are changing in the area where I live. Where there used to be
the old 'Publix' there are signs promising the new soon to be built
'Harris Teeter'. Uh, okay. Except I haven't seen a single bit of
movement on the new store in months.

Meanwhile, Food Lion, which was on the other side of the old Publix
building, is closing up shop. They've moved to a new location in what
used to be a Bi-Lo, which declared bankruptcy. (Never shopped there).

I'm wondering when they will resume construction on the new Harris
Teeter store. Things have been halted for about 3 months. I'm
wondering if they ran out of money. Just curious.

Bi-LO was across the parking lot from where I lived in the hotel in
Greenville. Hated it. I'd go in there pretty much every night
after work and left empty handed nothing most nights. There was

Oh wait - I "gave" the butcher at the Fresh Express(?) grocery store
a heart attack because the fat-ass chased me out of the store with
a knife at .5 MPH while I laughed at him walking backwards. It was
quite pathetic in a funny way. But he shouldn't have smarted of to
me when I simply asked for a tri-tip, let alone come after me with a
knife, that fat prick. I wish he would have died. And the cops
wanted to arrest me the next day after seeing the video and came to
my work, but they couldn't do shit. They just came to scare me and
tell I was an asshole <yawn>.

Publix does make good fried chicken! I've found the produce selection
to be very good, even if (at one point) no one seemed to know what a
leek is.

It depends on the cut of beef I'm buying and what I'm planning to do
with it. I rarely (never?) buy Select grade. Choice for a chuck roast
which I'll slow cook (browned first, then braised, sometimes in a crock
pot with potatoes and other vegetables) is fine. When it comes to
steaks, taste is what matters. The chuck eye steaks I buy aren't prime
but they're nicely marbled and tender and have a lot of flavor so that
is what matters. They fall into the Choice category.

Choice is typically the highest USDA Grade sold at markets because few
people will pay the price of Prime, few markets sell prime beef, nor
do most know how to cook it without ruining it. Select is a lower
grade and I very rarely buy it, in fact I rarely see Select where I
shop... some will grind Select to feed their pets because of its low
fat content.

USDA Choice is the best grade most markets sell, few sell Select and
even fewer sell Prime.

Choice isn't crappy meat. And select really either for many cuts.
I certainly wouldn't pay more for choice ground beef than for
select. And I wouldn't buy prime short ribs or prime brisket at the
same price as choice (I'd get the choice).

Yeah, they sold both back in 2003 (or whenever that was). But it
was thee first place I ever Florida avocados. Their impressive
girth was what attracted me to buying one. Eeek. That was a
surprise.

When the college kids graduate, they get a hold of some financing and try to change things in the neighborhood. Sometimes, their fancy new buildling projects just stop ... dead in their tracks.

It's apt more to be the national Labor shortage. The extra 300$ a week
(pretty sure it's weekly) to unemployment seems to have many sitting at
home, not working.

It sounds like the President is trying to end that extra? So folks go
back to work? It's time. Everyplace I see is crying for workers.
Construction is no different.

Takes time to undo it all is my guess. Plus, gives folks warning.
Wise ones are getting jobs now when pay is at premium to get anyone
willing to work.

Well, there didn't seem to be any shortage of workers when they tore
down the old Publix building back in February. I haven't seen any sort
of progress since. New homes are being built on Dataw so there doesn't
appear to be a shortage of residential construction workers, either.

The man I work for has done a total gut-job renovation to the house they
bought in Beaufort last September. The property has a garage apartment;
he and his wife have been living in it while the work is being done. No
shortage of workers there and no real delays, either. They move out of
the garage apartment and into the house at the end of next week.

My granddaughter wanted to change jobs. Two applications, two job
offers. One day.

Many places have signs for help. Went to a restaurant a couple of weeks
ago and they are closed one day for lack of help. Passing through
Virginia stopped for a meal at Wendy's and the dining room is closed at
8 PM for lack of help.

Harris Teeters are actually very nice. Some nicer than others. The
main thing is to get used to the rotational sales (they are very
regular) and use the eVIC emails (2 a week and they do NOT sell your
address) to manage digital coupons. If you do paper coupons, you can
combine them with the digital ones.

Thanks! Coupons are nice but since I don't have a smartphone I can't
use digital ones. I like getting weekly sales ads/flyers via email.
Harris teeter is practically across the street from my office so it will
be very convenient *if* they ever finish building it. So far all I've
seen is signs saying "Coming Soon"... for the last 6 months. They tore
down the old Publix building and then everything sort of stopped. <shrug>

Buy a Siri or an Alexa at one of those Apple Phone or Best Buy stores. you don't need fingers anymore for the dial. Just talk to it, it will call for you or even type for you on the monitor screen. Just talk to it.
