In a few years California won't allow the sale of ICE auto. They can't keep the lights on as it is, what is the plan to charge them? Near me there are quite a few apartments going up. One complex has about a hundred, the other about 300. Not a single charger that I can see. I guess you drop an extension cord from your 3rd floor apartment. Plan for the change now. If not, there will be a lot of EVs being towed to a charging station. |

My commute to/from my job is 4-8 minutes, depending on traffic, and my wife's is 3 minutes there, 4 minutes back, the difference being because we live on a one way street. You and Bruce are both correct. The auto manufacturers who have committed to 100% EVs by whenever are hopeful that by doing so they will incentivize greater investment in innovation of battery technology and installation of charging stations. That's all fine for city dwellers, but we're a long way from EVs having the kind of range for a trip from St. Louis to Chicago. There is plenty of wind and sunlight, but windmills and solar panels require a lot of investment and time to be built. I'm all for doing so with "all deliberate speed," a *moonshot*, but I'm not optimistic about the abilities, and even less so about the will of the ignorant, climate change denying crazies to not put up every obstacle they can. https://energynews.us/2020/04/30/mid...press-project/ -- --Bryan For your safety and protection, this sig. has been thoroughly tested on laboratory animals. |

I really hate to enter this minor fray but your point about the installation of charging stations in spot on. I live on one of a series of islands off the coast of southern South Carolina. There aren't any charging stations, nor are there likely to be any for a very long time. Let's say I wanted to go shopping in Savannah, GA. That's about 125 miles round trip. If my vehicle needed a charge to get me home, SOL! Even in town, SOL. Ed also mentioned elsewhere in this thread, battery needs charging and no charging stations? You have to call and wait for a tow to a charging station. Yeah, good luck with that. Jill |

So far, just small ones for use in places where changing or charging is not easily done. Satellites for one instance, the other implanted medical devices. One example is Chevy Bolt for $37,000. Tesla has a long range model. 375 miles and price starts at $82,000 For many, especially if you have two cars, that is plenty of range. Not so good for long trips. There are charging stations at most highway rest stops on I95 but how long do you want to hang out there when you want to do an 850 mile day? |

Gasoline here has recently shot up to $2.79 a (U.S.) gallon. So that's $2.79 for 3.8 litres, or about 2 GBP for about 4 litres of gasoline (if Google and my creaky algebra skills are to be believed). I think you can see why EVs are having a tough time in the U.S. Cindy Hamilton |

When gas prices are high the price of gas guzzling cars and pickups drop and people look at smaller, more fuel efficient vehicles. As soon as the price of gas drops they rush out to get the big cars and pickups. They all know that the price of gas is only going to go up, but they only really care about what it is at the time. |

The earth has been doing that long before humans. It's a cyclic event. Global warming started about 10,000 years ago when the last ice age ended. Granted, humans in the past 100 years are speeding it up a bit but it will continue to happen even without us. One more good pandemic and the earth will be without our worthless species and it will go back to normal usual cycles and heal itself. Mother Earth is the Alpha in the long run. Research should concentrate on using the nuclear waste. If it remains radioactive for years, there's still plenty of energy waiting to be harnessed. |

The length of time to charge is why I have not gone electric. I have been eyeing Teslas for ages- even before they had a dealer here in NJ, but I am not going to dump all that money into the car if I cannot use it for serious road trips. Besides, Elon Musk gives me the willies. I get tolerable enough mileage to use either of our gas cars for town errands and see no sense in dumping either at this point for an electric just for bopping. |
