Plug in hybrids have been the obvious answer for the transition, and
should be sold with minimal battery capacity, with plenty of room for
adding additional battery modules. My commute to/from my job is 4-8
minutes, depending on traffic, and my wife's is 3 minutes there, 4
minutes back, the difference being because we live on a one way street.

You and Bruce are both correct. The auto manufacturers who have
committed to 100% EVs by whenever are hopeful that by doing so they
will incentivize greater investment in innovation of battery technology
and installation of charging stations. That's all fine for city
dwellers, but we're a long way from EVs having the kind of range for a
trip from St. Louis to Chicago.

There is plenty of wind and sunlight, but windmills and solar panels
require a lot of investment and time to be built. I'm all for doing
so with "all deliberate speed," a *moonshot*, but I'm not optimistic
about the abilities, and even less so about the will of the ignorant,
climate change denying crazies to not put up every obstacle they can.
