Julie seems to find reasons not to substitute ingredients once she latches onto a brand. Unfortunately, the 'Just Mayo' brand seems to be kaput. Or there has been a name change. <shrug> She probably can't use yogurt due to some sort of lactose intolerance. Ditto creme fraiche or sour cream. There's always a reason suggested substitions will be rebutted. Sorry, we can't make anyone start selling 'Just Mayo' again. Jill |

It's classic. She shoots down every suggestion even though there are other vegan mayo options. Heck, Hellman's even makes a vegan version. She wrote upthread: "I'm no going to buy and try the ones that i haven't yet." Yet somehow she bought and tried and *liked* 'Just Mayo'. For all she knows, she might like one of the other brands even more. Jill |

There > are others available, but she insists on the one that is not available. I never said I don't like mayo. I said I don't like Miracle Whip. Growing up, we only ever had MW and my mom called it mayo. We also only ever had margarine and she called it butter. As a kid, I thought I disliked mayo and butter because she misnamed those foods. Her mom (my grandma) had a farm and I knew I liked the butter there. For sure that was real butter because she churned it! To add to the confusion, we once went to a fancy restaurant. They had a bowl of ice with little butter pats on it. They had white thick paper on the bottom and IIRC correctly, a more see through, waxy paper on the top. Each pat had the word 'Butter" stamped on it so I know it was real butter. I tried some on a roll and it tasted terrible. My dad then told us all not to eat the butter. It was rancid. We never got beyond the salad stage of that dinner as I had a loose tooth and I swallowed it with a bite of the salad. My mom freaked and dragged me out to the lobby to call someone. Dr? Dentist? Not sure. They laughed and told her it would pass in my stool. I just remember the chaos of people in the lobby and a bank of pay phones. near a beautiful, revolving glass door. I watched the door spin and spin as my mother stood to my left screaming into the phone. Perhaps the restaurant was in a hotel. Not sure. I know we were in downtown Wichita. My dad and brother soon joined us and we left. I don't recall where we wound up having dinner that night. I didn't start buying butter until I met my now ex husband. He insisted that he grew up eating butter. Nope. His mom bought Blue Bonnet margarine just like my mom did. I learned that I much prefer the butter. I learned the difference between mayo and Miracle Whip in a restaurant. It was a Denny's or Sambos or something of that ilk. I ordered a roast beef sandwich with no mayo. It came with mayo but my dad said I had to eat it as is because we were in a hurry and there was no time to make it over. I bit into it and liked it. I even told the waitress that their mayo was really good and the stuff we had at home wasn't. That's when my mom told me that our stuff wasn't mayo at all. I have no clue why my parents insisted on calling things by different names as it always backfired at some point. Telling me my liver and onions was steak. Telling my nephew that his broccoli was not broccoli but little trees. Or telling Angela that there is no letter "S". It's called "sneaky snake". I well remember the phone call from her teacher. Angela had merely parroted back what she had been told. I had no clue that my parents told her that until I got the phone call! |

I can see no reason why that would not separate out. The flour is not enough to keep it together and I don't think it would keep long enough for me to use it up. But thanks! |

Jarred mayo/MW are nasty. Mayonnaise can be a nice thing made with fresh egg yolk, *good* oil (not the shitty soy or Canola they put in the jarred stuff), lemon juice, salt, and maybe something to flavor it a little. There's nothing wrong with subbing in a tiny bit of a favorite vinegar for a portion of the lemon juice. > > > songbird (certified heathen --Bryan |

I was really just joking. I pretty much think that your way of eating is more healthful. I made pulled pork sandwiches for dinner. I sous vided a boneless pork loin in the vac bag it came in for about 12 hours, poured the liquid into a saucepan to reduce, and smoked the pork loin for about 3 hours with hickory. I combined the reduced "broth" with a bottle of BBQ sauce, and added only a little extra hot chilli powder. The only side was cream cheese dip (cream cheese, heavy cream, garlic salt and Worcestershire) with potato chips. --Bryan |

I said I *have* made it and I *have* bought other brands and did not like them as they didn't hold up and made a runny mess. |

She was OK with that. She didnt like stew. Angela is that way with roast beef. She won't eat pot roast but if I buy the cooked Hormel roast beef and mix it with pasta, she loves it. I just call it beef and noodles. Angela will eat chicken stew but not beef. |

You've obviously never had this reaction. You *can't* stir it back in because watery stuff goes to the bottom of the bowl. And how are you going to stir it once you put it on the bread for a sandwich. This stuff separates immediately. Even a potao salad made with Russet potatoes won't soak up all the wantery gunk. I don't necessarily like the the chemicals. Why did bruce not post the ingredients? Here you go. Where are the chemicals? Ingredients: Expeller-Pressed Canola Oil, Water, White Distilled Vinegar, Contains less than 2% of Lemon Juice Concentrate, Modified Food Starch, Pea Protein, Salt, Spice, Sugar, Fruit and Vegetable Juice (color). |

Because when I've done that in the past, and yes, I did contact them in the past via email, the response was that they can not tell me what will be in stock and when for particular stores. |
