Default The last appliance for a while... I hope.

The new washing machine arrived today. I give this place credit for
reliable delivery service. The call from the store to say what day it
will be delivered. The day before you get an automated call giving you a
3-4 hour delivery window and about an hour before you get a call to let
you know they are on their way. My call yesterday told me between 12:30
and 3:30. I had a call at 12:20 saying they would be here within an
hour. The arrived at 1:10 and were back on the road by 1:20.

My wife was a little upset that I had not arranged for installation. I
assured there there is no need for installation on a washing machine. It
was just a matter of leveling it, plugging it in and attaching the two
water lines. Son of a gun if didn't run into a snag there. I had had
no problem turning off the water line and removing the old hoses.
However, when I turned the hot water tap back on it was leaking out
through the valve. I scooted over to the hardware for new innards and
in a coupe minutes we were in business.

We did out first load of laundry, a load of sheets and place mats. When
the load was finished I took it out and put in in the new dryer and as I
was taking it out I was surprised that that it looked to be such a small
load. The same amount of laundry in the old machine used to half fill
the washer, but when this one was done there was just a little bit of
stuff in the bottom.

You must have appeased by now whatever malevolent fairies are
targeting you. Fingers crossed for you.

Many places will haul away the old one. I've done that to save a
headache.

I ended u[ looking at the appliances at Lowes's since I was there, but
found a local dealer down here to buy from. Arranged to have them
delivered the day after closing. Lowe's was not able to give me the
delivery service I wanted and in all, I paid about $100 more to the
local guy.

I hope you can stay out of the appliance stores for another 20 years or
so.

I hope you used those wire wrapped, mesh, metal, whatever they are called,
water hoses. And like Ed, I hope you are able to stay out of appliance
stores for another 20 years.

Absolutely, new SS mesh fill hoses are a must and have new ballcock
valves installed... I turn the ballcack valves off after each load
finishes, who needs a flood from a burst fill hose or a leaking valve.
Anytime I buy a major appliance I spring for installation and for an
extended warranty. When we bought a new Maytag dishwasher we paid $35
for installation and saved more than $100 because that's when we
learned that the original owners hooked up their dishwasher with
automobile radiator hose, a disaster waiting to happen. The new
installation was free, we only paid $23 extra for the new proper hose
kit... was well worth it, 16 years ago and no problems since. The
fellow who installed the dishwasher was a disabled Nam Vet (missing an
arm amd a leg), did an excellent job, he arrived with his son as his
helper.
We bought the dishwasher directly from Maytag.

Yes, I got the stainless braided water hoses.

And yes, I hope not to have to go back for a while.

I was talking to my brother today and he is thinking about a new fridge.
He said that he liked a particular appliance store because they have
free delivery and take the old ones for free. I just checked their
prices on the same models I bought and they were all at least $200 more.

I had avoided that one because I bought a fridge and stove there a
number of years, and both were Maytag. I got to know the Maytag repair
man well the first few weeks because of the problems we had with the
stove. We ended up getting the stove switched out and the same problems
with the second on. When my mother sold her house and moved into a
condo she got an apartment size washer dryer set and paid for
installation. The first time she used it the drainage hose blew off and
it flooded brand new carpeting. They thought her insurance should cover
it.

I hope someone persuaded them (with a big stick?) that they were responsible
for the repair plus replacement of the carpet.

Hopefully this is the end of The Great Non-Kitchen Appliance Drama
of 2019.

ObFood: Italian sausage, pepper, and onion sandwiches with porvolone
and Chili Crisp for dinner. Intense Chocolate ice cream with chili
crisp for dessert. if you don't have Chili Crisp you're missing
out. I haev the 24oz jar and two regular size jars of alternate
varieties from the same company.
