The very first movie I recall seeing was "Elephant Walk." For years and years
all I could remember about that movie were the elephants stomping around in that
huge plantation house. No memory of who the actors were at all.

The music is what I remember about that show.

I have an above range microwave, with a decent fan that exhausts the
way yours does- vent hose runs through the cabinets above to the
outside. It is an electric glass top, though.

Only problem we ever had with the set up was the flying squirrels.
That problems was solved with some ingenuity and traps..

I do not recall smoking being allowed in the theaters in Detroit & Ann
Arbor back when I had youth and a pack of Marlboros.

I do recall being happily surprised to find out that one could smoke
in the movies in NYC, though. I remember being able to smoke in
grocery stores, too.

Very glad I gave up the habit, though I really enjoyed it at the time.

Hey, I'm only 5'3". I'm also afraid of heights, so I don't climb
ladders. I can deal with a step stool but anything more than a few feet
off the ground to reach something from a cabinet, I'd rather not.

The overhead LED light tubes above the kitchen island (main source of
light) are burned out. I am going to have to hire someone to come in
and replace them. I have the bulbs but I experience vertigo if I climb
a ladder and have to look up. The last thing I need is to get dizzy
replacing them and fall off the kitchen island.

I was told the first movie I ever saw was Disney's 'Snow White'. I sure
don't remember it.

I fell off a chair last year and put a big dent in my dishwasher, I was a
little banged up, but not too bad, no more chairs or ladders for me, just a
small stool once in awhile.

I have this small folding step stool for things that are just out of reach.
https://i.postimg.cc/3rt3cNXv/Folding-step-stool.jpg

Back in October or November I ordered this one from Home Depot and it's for
things that need a ladder but I feel safer on it and I like it that it has
a tool tray.

The first movie I remember seeing was The Boy With The Green Hair...
my mom's youngest sister took me.

I have one similar to that three stepper but I don't find it very
stable... most times I reach for this, it's super strong, super
stable, and folds flat for storage... I have two of them. one lives in
the kitchen pantry, the other is in our gardening shed... even makes a
great outdoor seat and is unaffected by weather. Our kitchen cabinets
are deeper than usual so most times all I need is one step to reach
into the back of kitchen cabinets:
https://www.amazon.com/Folding-Step-...ing+step+stool
For anything higher I bring in a 6' heavy duty wooden ladder from the
garage. I'm not comfortable working at heights unless it's a very
stable ladder. I always buy the strongest ladders that are rated to
support the most weight... I try to find ladders rated at 300 pounds,
I don't like rickety ladders.

I ordered this one from Home Depot, free shipping if I picked it up at the store. They had other three-step stools in stock but all the steps were
made out of heavy duty plastic and I wanted metal steps. Same price as the
plastic step models.

That's what I use in the kitchen when I need something just out of my reach in
a cabinet.

Oh dear I am like Jill, I can't manage heights at all. Yes, I manage a
very small stool and if I am very desperate to get something and D. isn't
around I will climb onto a kitchen chair. I hate it though and very nervous.

You're lucky D. is around! With me it's not just ladders. I have an

Great for painting the ceiling. You can just push your way around with

Yep! Linoleum flooring and casters. Not a good idea.

I bought a similar ladder from Ace; it was called a "work platform",
and the top step is extra-large. I like it so much that I bought
another one for the church kitchen.

But most of the time I use a library stool,

or a little one-step stool.

The steps on this one are oversized and I like it and I feel secure standing on
it. A man with a size 16 shoe might experience some toes hanging over. :-)

We had one of those at work and they really are nice; absolutely no rolling
around or teetering once you stand on it. I would like one of those for the
kitchen but I just have no room for it to be out in that area all the time.

The Kik-step is a unique, classic, and iconic, piece of industrial design. Just beautiful!

Those are nice. We had a similar, but slightly more elaborate ladder
in the workshop:

I have something similar. Might not be that brand. Mine is red. Only problem
is if I need to stand on the lower step, I can use only one foot or stand
pigeon toed due to the design. But I love that I can kick it out of the way,
and sit on it when I need to access the lower cupboards. And it's very
sturdy and stable.

My kik-step wanders about.

It's in the sewing room at the moment because I needed to plug the
iron into a ceiling fixture a couple a days ago. It's been known to
fill in as a computer chair when the office chair is at the sewing
machine and I want to take a note and get right back to sewing.

The little one-step stool just fits the notch where the fridge sticks
out farther than the cabinet -- and the cabinet above it is the one I
need to get into most often, so that works out.

It's a beautiful ladder - well, especially from that angle. Looks like it was designed by the Germans.

Self-driving cars will keep us in stitches for quite a while!

The thing about unique, classic, and iconic designs is that it doesn't always perform as well something you wouldn't look at twice.

We use ours, why waste perfectly good storage space, but can only
reach the front portion as they are deep, that's why the new step
ladder. Both hold all those rarely used items that wouldn't store
easily elsewhere. There's nothing in the cabinet over the stove that
would be needed while cooking, plus anyone with an IQ would know
better than to reach over a stove while it's on.
Over the stove... it's hard to see but there's a galvanized steel vent
running up through the cabinet to the outside:

Over the fridge:

My least favorite place to store anything is on the very bottom part
of lower cabinets... I don't feel like crawling on the floor with a
flashlight to find things.

I have to crawl onto the adjacent counter in order to reach somewhat
over the fridge to get to the right side of that cupboard. If my
husband gets on a ladder he can sort of lay himself out over the top
of the fridge to reach inside.
I've told my daughter that those cabinets hold the family treasures
(china, silver, glassware, pottery). When I die she is supposed to go
through those cupboards to see what she wants to keep. I haven't been
in those cupboards since we remodeled --probably 30 years. It's hard
enough trying to dust the top of the fridge, can't reach all the way
to the back, my husband has to dust up there.

Two words: pullout shelves

The kitchen we installed in 1989, in our first house, had pullout
shelves in every base cabinet.

They can be added to existing cabinets too. Nice to have.

Agree with both of you! I had metal pullout shelves installed my lower cabinets
and that put an end to getting on hands and knees as well as pulling out all
the stuff that was in the way. Some purging was done for no longer used items.
