Default Apple tart

I jes finished baking an apple tart. Not a great tart, but good enough!

It was made in a Chicago Baking tart pan, used a stone-ground flour
crust, but fer filling I had a 20oz can of Kroger's Apple Pie Filling
that needed to get used up.

Tomorrow, I'll try this tart:

.....I like that it's a custard-based pie. Tart made in a springform
pan? I never! OTOH, who has? I usta make berry tarts with a pastry
cream filling.

I notice the video said to peel the apples with a paring knife. If I did
that I'd have an apple the size of a marble. I've never mastered using a
paring knife to peel anything but give me a vegetable peeler and I'll still
have something resembling an apple when it's skin is history.

This is the first time I've ever seen a silicone springform pan.

Peeling and cutting up an apple is kind of a nutty, awkward, thing to do. OTOH, maybe that guy is some kind of ninja knife master. A silicone springform pan is most unnatural. That's Europeans for you!

Compared to my paring knife skills, he is!

I've got two silicone ice cube trays which are easy to pop the cubes out.

I got a big peeler. It's a whole lot of fun. I use it to make coleslaw as well as peeling stuff. Some people might think it shreds the cabbage too finely. I like to think you can never shred cabbage fine enough.

I've toyed with getting on of those but I'm afraid it would just be another
gadget taking up valuable drawer space. But I still look at them each time
I hit the kitchen tools section.

We have a StarFrit apple peeler similar to the one linked below. If I
have to peel a bunch of apples I dig it out. It is fast and easy to use.

Well, I didn't make it yesterday, but I made it. this morning.

It's more of an apple tart cake, what with the custard base made with
flour. I used stoneground flour and apricot-pineapple jam, as that is
what I had.

Meh!

Not great ....barely passable.... but that's what I get fer using almost
expired flour and totally old apricot-pineapple jam (fer Jezebel Sauce).

Would I recommend it? No, But, at least I tried it and it IS easy on
my rotten tooth (IOW, "soft").

I've eaten half of it, but I think I tried it cuz I'm starving for
something sweet and apples fill the bill (that, plus 4.2 oz of suger).

My weight loss has remained steady, but it's cuz I've not eaten any
sugar (or very little). I suspect the lack of flavor is due to the two
very old ingredients, I used.

Use fresher ingredients and you might not need so much to give you that
satisfaction) It does you good to have something you really enjoy now
and
again
