A tragedy for his family left to deal with this the rest of their lives.

I would imagine that it takes a lot of pain and anguish for a person to
kill himself.

Yep, a person who only thinks of themselves and does not think about the
pain and lifetime heartache and questions they leave behind.

Did he leave a note? I know Kate Spade did but they have not released
the contents yet. Or if they have I haven't read it yet.

I don't know about either of them, but I do know that some people opt for
assisted suicide with the full support of their families when ill. I
couldn't venture a guess as to why someone chooses to end their life, many
times for something only known to them. I have nothing but compassion for
these troubled souls.

I can, under certain circumstances, understand assisted suicide. I've
seen people in bed in extreme pain from cancer for weeks. They are not
going to be cured or get any better. If they want to cut short a couple
of weeks, good for them.

Easy to be critical of others but I'm not going to condemn them. I have
no idea what is going on in their head or why. It certainly is not
normal.

Possibly an untreated mental illness. Fashion designer Kate Spade
killed herself earlier this week. Depression?

The ads for depression medications often point out how people suffering
from depression put on a good face but are feeling miserable inside.
Their friends and family don't even know. It's sad.

All the recent news reports about suicide have had a caption at the
bottom with a toll free number to call if you need to talk to someone.

I wonder if they are connected in an odd way. The adds for medication
and even the news gives phone numbers to call. OTOH, I wonder if all
the publicity from Kate Spade gave Tony the thought, "maybe it is a way
out" and thus tried it.

So many thing that never happened in the past become frequent after
publicity. School shootings, using trucks to run people over, car
jacking, etc.

Beats me. I'd never heard of Kate Spade until it was splashed all over
the so-called news programs. I'm not a fashion maven. I did know who
Anthony Bourdain was. I'd read his book "Kitchen Confidential" and
occasionally saw him on TV.

It's true the media plays a large part in the publicity. I'm not sure
that's an argument for why it appears more people are committing
suicide. We're really only hearing about the celebrities, ya know. I
couldn't begin to give actual statistics.

Same with me, I only had heard of her from a Jeopardy question a few days
before her death. I had heard of AB too, but couldn't tell you if I've ever
seen him.

Takes an extremely low IQ plus pure selfishness, and uncaring for
those left behind.

Well, fill us in graham. We're all waiting with baited breath to hear
your theory about how wonderful his family will be now that he's killed
himself. Tell how easy it is going to be for that little girl to cope
with her father dead and knowing he killed himself. He didn't drop dead
of a heart attack, he didn't waste away from cancer, he wasn't mowed down
by a drunk driver, he wasn't killed in a plane crash. But tell us how
right and wonderful it was what he did. Tell us what a spectacular thing
he did and how it's going to benefit everyone. Tell us that little girl
will be just fine and dandy.

Oh give me a break. Anthony Bordain committing suicide has nothing to
do with your opinion of RFC, Sheldon, or Donald Trump. Stop twisting
this into something it isn't. It clearly will hurt the child and
family. Suicide always does.

Ever heard this song? "Suicide is painless?" No, it's not. Not for
the people left behind.

Distorting Graham's comment makes you look bad. He didn't say that.

And we don't KNOW that the hanging was suicide. It could have been a
well-known auto-erotic sexual activity that went wrong and he did not
intend to kill himself. We don't know what other factors were in play
(terrible shock, mental illness, effects of drugs or drink). In this
country, coroners reports of suicide often describe "suicide while the
balance of the mind was disturbed".

But tell us how

Ugly talk.

When delusions and paranoia take over, it's not uncommon for disturbed
people to believe with absolute certainty that their
family/partner/children want them to die, will welcome the death, or,
that staying alive will inflict a lifetime of worse suffering on their
children. Unless you've witnessed it you probably can't imagine how
terrifying acute mental illness can be to those affected.

What's ugly talk about a little girl who now has to live with the selfish
suicide of her father? What's ugly is what he did.

Don't try to 2nd guess though. He might have done that for a
valid reason and he might have let his family know about
beforehand. You shouldn't call him selfish. None of us know the
details...it's brand new news.

Just when it seems you've hit rock bottom, you manage to go lower.

He probably just hit a low point in his life. He couldn't see getting out of the black pit he was in. No doubt that things would have gotten better had he not killed himself. Mostly, people that kill themselves have lost the ability to see and feel the future.

I'm not second guessing and there is never a valid reason to take your own
life when you have children. Don't try to excuse his selfish behavior with
platitudes of 'he might have let his family know beforehand.' That is
laughable.

You must be suffering pretty badly before you do something as horrible
as hang yourself. It's very easy and shallow to judge and condemn him
without knowing anything about him.
