Oh yes, the Smokey original and even the Johnny Rivers cover - one of
the greatest soul songs of all time.

It's hard to believe we were lucky enough to be alive when truly great
music was commonplace, innit?

Well I saw neither hide nor turban of him the last few times I was in.

I think great music is always being made. 40 years from now, the younger generation is going to be expressing the same sentiments. OTOH, Mr. Gaye's heartfelt "What's Going On" would be one of the greatest albums I've ever had.

I'll ask my son what he thinks is the greatest decade of contemporary music. He's familiar with the music from the 60's to now.

Just not in the sheer volume and diversity rock and soul was then, which
is like any new phenomenon, crowded out of the gate.

Yessir.

That man was simply incredible, same for Al Green.

Soul music passed away commercially with the advent of funk and disco.

The former still has some adherents and remains cool.

It's a tough call, they're very different decades, but it's good to see
what younger folks think was special from those years.

I am particularly enjoying the Japan pop you've put up. And seeing music
cross cultures like that and be so accessible is really cool. I mean I
dig Taylor Swift quite a bit, but the Jpop has such embedded good humor
and total spontaneity.

Well yes, thank God for singers like The Reverend Al Green. Here's a video of an artist that can literally do anything she damn well pleases. In this case, she's wearing a pink afro wig and hot pants. She has a string orchestra playing a 60's American style arrangement and some 70's showgirls dancing with her. In this fluffy setting she's singing a mournful tune about lost hope and certain death. When you think about it, it's brilliant!

I also loved the way Adam Lambert performed Tracks of my Tears on American
Idol.

Yes, music was a huge part of my young life, and my son was captive to all
my music from the time he was born, he still loves it to this day.

Dire Straits aren't bad. I would have thought you'd be into Barbara
Streisand and Kenny Rogers.

I like all kinds of music, not so much Barbra, but I do like Kenny
especially when he was with The First Edition.

I always liked this song Ruby Don't Take Your Love To Town.

Music is very subjective, to each their own.

Hmmm... Well at least my rice is nice! I bought tomatoes at yet another

I saw that song and my mind immediately flashed to eating stuffed
potato skins, drinking beer in this old saloon in a nearby ghost town
after cross country skiing. Good times ;-))

In this case, she's wearing a pink afro wig and hot pants. She has a string orchestra playing a 60's American style arrangement and some 70's showgirls dancing with her. In this fluffy setting she's singing a mournful tune about lost hope and certain death. When you think about it, it's brilliant!

Wow, am I hearing the Japanese Madonna or what!

It's maybe just me but I swear she gets a LOT of presence vocally for
very little lip movement - BIG voice or BIG mike?

Any time you live through the birth of something (rock & soul music) the
process is so original, so inventive that the results are life stamps.

I love k d, but Adam is a lot better looking, and to me Roy Orbison owns
crying, but it's nice.

They (were) ARE really good - fantastic corn muffins and a tasty
roasting process and nice sit down accomodations!

My bad, I though the whole chain had gone down.

Instead they just went off continent:

http://www.krr.com.my/v3/restaurant-locator.php

https://www.everydayonsales.com/wp-c...on-350x247.jpg

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenny_Rogers_Roasters

Despite the chain's end in the United States, Kenny Rogers Roasters
continues to flourish in Asia under the ownership of Berjaya Group. An
article published by Time.com in 2011[18] reported that Kenny Rogers
Roasters had grown to almost 140 restaurants across Asia, with continued
expansion in Malaysia,[19] the Philippines,[20] and more recently
southern China.

In Malaysia, the Kenny Rogers Roasters chain of restaurants is developed
and operated by Berjaya Roasters (M) Sdn Bhd. Under a corporate exercise
by Berjaya Corporation Berhad in 2011, Berjaya Roasters (M) Sdn Bhd
became a wholly owned subsidiary of Berjaya Food Berhad.[21]

In March 2011, Berjaya Food Berhad listed on the Main Board of Bursa
Malaysia. Effectively, Berjaya Food Berhad is responsible for the
establishment, operation and expansion of Kenny Rogers Roasters
restaurants in Malaysia. This includes the development of the Kenny
Rogers Roasters brand, management of menu items and acting as central
procurement agent for Kenny Rogers Roasters restaurants across Malaysia.
