All it takes is one little mis-configuration to screw things up for you. John Kuthe... |

If someone sends me an email and uses the same subject header it shows up in the inbox highlighted as if it is new mail but it is the old one, and I cannot delete it. It happens only on my deck top. It works fine on my laptop. When using the desk top and I see it happening I switch to my browser and go to OutLook. |

There is likely a way to filter that somewhere in the setting up of message filters. Me, I try to pay attention and simply delete the other groups when I see something has been cross-posted. Then I k/f the troll who started it. As for Graham's problem, he needs to check under settings/server settings. Make sure "Always Request Authentication" is selected. I was getting that same error (Not allowed to post). While trouble-shooting I had deselected that option and it gave me that same error. Then again, I was also having issues with the news server which is why I was fiddling around with the Thunderbird settings in the first place. Jill |

Perhaps it could be a setting in your AV client? It might be due to a setting in the OS 'firewall' but likely not. Worth looking maybe? I like Tbird for both and email and usenet client; I've been using it for years with nary any problems. Sky ================================ Kitchen Rule #1 - Use the timer! Well, that's some interesting logic. That's like not blaming your anti-virus proggie for failing to detect a well known virus ![]() >There is likely a way to filter that somewhere in >the setting up of message filters. Would be easier to use a real newsreader that will k/f the troll across all NGs with one or two clicks. >As for Graham's problem, he needs to check under settings/server >settings. You're probably right if the server he is having problems with is eternal-september. But he hasn't stated clearly which server is causing him problems. aioe has in the past week had major server problems - but then RFC is on their ban list, so that's academic I guess. |

Being cross posted to a number of groups is usually a pretty good indication that it is going to be something weird. |
