Default Refried beans in Mexico

I spoke to the owner of the Mexican restaurant where we had lunch today. He
is from the Oaxaca region of Mexico. I asked him if refried beans are eaten
in Mexico. He told me that they are but whole beans are more common. Why?
He said that oil is expensive there and so is lard. Lard is slightly
cheaper and this is why it is used more often than oil. But it too was
expensive. So for this reason, the eating of whole beans is more common.
But he also added that what is eaten depends on the region of Mexico and
that more and more people are preferring oil over lard for health reasons
but that his dietician thinks that lard is better than some oils such as
canola. The dietician did say that olive was a healthy oil.

So... There you have it! Mexicans do eat refried beans.

They eat cheeseburgers and fries, too. Even strawberry shakes.

I know. But someone here tried to tell me that people in Mexico do not eat
refried beans.

In some parts you won't find it. There are many regional dishes in Mexico.

Right, so to respond to some ignorant dilettante who says it is not
authentic just ask to what region they refer. But don't bother them with
how your family hates them and you can only eat them on odd numbered Tuesday
in months with an R in them. TMI.

Save yourself the effort. She in immune to facts and would likely deny
making the claim.

While Julie is clueless about almost everything, I think that she does
know her beans, and that the Bove house is a place of vapors. I have,
however, never heard that Oaxacans were too poor to afford lard. My
favorite Taqueria is also Oaxacan, and Layla's signature item is her
banana leaf tamale. https://www.facebook.com/ElComalRestaurante/

I remember that when I was a teenager, much of the weed we got was
Oaxacan, and it was pretty much the low grade Mexican. Not knowing
any better, folks here pronounced Michoacan (a grade above regular
Mexican) *meshmicahn*. Then there was Acapulco Gold, which was still
more potent.

Colombian pot was even pricier, and more potent. All of it was
nowhere near the potency of the stuff today. I still love the
marijuana plant, even though it has been a long time since I really
enjoyed its high.

I like both. Perhaps kidney a bit more. Would you believe that as a kid, I
used kidney for refried? We never had any pintos in the house in those
days. I knew mine tasted different than what I got at the Mexican
restaurant but didn't know why.

Kidney beans do have maybe 100x more bean toxin than other beans.

You keep saying that but I think that only applies if not properly cooked.

Only if you eat them undercooked.

I learned how to pronounce that word by listening to Cheech and Chong.
