Default The last of the turkey

Don't get me wrong. I do not dislike turkey. It's just that I like it
enough to have once in a while and to have a sandwich or two and maybe
one meal with the leftovers. This year things worked out well. We got
a 12.5 lb turkey for Christmas and we had my son, my brother and his
wife for supper. My wife gave most of the leftover white meat to our son
and my brother. I had a turkey sandwich with cranberry sauce for lunch
and my wife is making Turkey Divan for supper (almost ready). That will
be the end of the turkey, and I will be ready to eat turkey again for
Thanksgiving.

My brother called this morning to thank us for a great dinner. He said
his wife had lost an earring and asked me to look around to see if it
was here. I looked around the the living room, dining room, family
room. I have to confess that I had not even noticed her earrings so I
did not know what I was looking for, but I went outside to check the
driveway. I had to ask my wife, because she notices things like that.
Then I called my brother back to ask what the earrings looked like, but
just as he answered I saw something on the floor next to the garbage
can.... a cluster of pearls.

This is the first xmas in probably 40 years that I didn't eat any
turkey, and for that I'm grateful.
Xmas brunch with son#1 and a host of d-i-l's relatives was casual and
birdless.
Xmas evening was with son#2 and their 4month old twins. Too much with
the delightful twins, one unfortunately with a cold, so a simple ham
roast and a bottle of Verve Cliquot!

We had turkey for Thanksgiving less than 30 days ago, turkey for
Christmas, and I imagine we'll have it a couple more times before
summer. I can't rule out a summer turkey roasted on the gas grill.

Turkey roasted offset in a Weber is damn delicious, but once a year at
Thanksgiving is enough for me. While it's great the first time
around, nobody at this house likes the leftovers - so I stopped doing
it that way.
