out. Quite probably the mill part, made by Peugeot, got wet once too
often. I wonder if replacement mill mechanisms can be bought but I
suspect I may have to cannibalize a new pepper mill.

You used to be able to get Peugeot mechanisms from Lee Valley but when I
bought one to turn a mill on my lathe, the quality led me to believe it
was a factory second. AFAIK, the mechanisms are not available
separately. Watch out for pepper mills in garage sales and cannibalize.

I first got on USENET back in the early 90s via a free service, and
later Supernews, but dropped it when Supernews hiked the price, and I
found that I wasn't seeing a lot of legitimate traffic, not enough to
justify the price. This was a few years back, maybe four.

I recently found that my new ISP allowed free access, so I got back on a
few months ago. I knew USENET was dying, but I was shocked nonetheless;
some of the previously most active groups that I had monitored, for
instance alt.true-crime, were almost completely dead, outside of the
spam and trolls.

I asked a few still-active posters about this, and one of the
interesting answers was that a lot of services had dropped USENET access
due to fear of lawsuits, particularly concerning some of the stuff being
posted to the binary groups. Their opinion was that, in addition to the
spam, this is what eliminated so many users.

As the providers dropped it, many left. I'm here still but a bit
sporadic.
