Default What is a salad?

Every time I think I could define it, I think of an exception--

Waldorf
Tuna
Egg
fruit salad
Snicker
Grilled vegetables [esp Romaine]

Dan Eaton is calling a grilled portobello, a few stalks of grilled
asparagus and a slice of grilled onion- drizzled with a soy/ginger
dressing a 'salad'. The title bothered me-- but I don't know
why. He didn't mix it up before plating and I think that is
something *my* mind needs to call something a salad.

But then there is that Wedge salad. . .
