What are the most common seasonings/ingredients used in Italian food?
If I had to guess from watching "Lidia's Italy" TV series, carrots, celery and a third item (I forget at the moment) are commonly used together. Salt, oregano and basil also get used in a lot of her recipes. What else? I'm just interested in what would be commonly used ingredients, not a list of everything that MIGHT be used for a special dish or region of Italy. Think of it as a "Top 10" list :-) I'm trying to get an idea of what I might want to keep around the kitchen. TIA, John |
