He was born June 26, 1920, in rural Sunbury, Pa., a son of the late Frank Sr. and Josephine Cooke. On Aug. 24, 1947, he married the former Ann Houseworth, who survives. Frank was a 1937 graduate of Sunbury High School. In October 1941, he enlisted in the Army, where he was attached to the U.S. Signal Corps and eventually commissioned a first lieutenant. He served in Africa, Italy, Corsica, France, Germany and England. Returning to the United States in 1946, he joined the Reserves with the rank of captain. He was a 1949 graduate of Bucknell University, Lewisburg, Pa., where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in English. He also attended Springfield College in Massachusettes and took music classes at SBCC, UCSB, Hancock and Cal State Northridge. Frank began his teaching career at Indian Mountain School, Lakeville, Conn., from September 1951 to June 1957, where he taught a bit of everything. He and his family moved to Dutchess School, Millbrook, N.Y., where he became headmaster in June 1957 and remained there until June 1964. The family then moved to Santa Barbara, where he taught for a year at the Crane School and then assumed the position of headmaster of Crane and remained in that capacity until June 1978, when he retired. In retirement, he authored a cookbook called "Cooking with Music." Music was one of Frank's passions, and he composed the music and lyrics for five musicals which students at Crane and Dutchess performed each year. He was an accomplished pianist and earned his way through college by playing on weekends at various lounges and bars in the area. This made for meeting many interesting people. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter and son-in- law, Leslie and Kevin King; one son and daughter-in-law, Jeffery and Janet Cooke; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; three great- grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Laura Jane Lackay, and one brother, Myron Cooke. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Frank's memory may be made to Bucknell University, Music Department, Lewisburg, PA 17837. About "Cooking With Music": "A carefully chosen selection of favorite recipes from special people in the music world and from friends and family and the Cookes' kitchen includes Artie Shaw's Middle Eastern Loubya, Wayne Kliman's Cottage Cheese-Noodle-Pineapple Kugel, Conway's Twitty Burger, Rod McKuen's chocolate-mayonnaise cake, etc., etc." Other books of his: Bent Twig, 1971 Write That Song!
