"quality" eggs so long as they produce eggs, regardless of diet... the
nutritional value will be identical by weight. When a bird is ill in a way
that would affect its egg's viability to produce young it simply ceases egg

Did I say egg quality had to do with the nutritional value? Not once did
that concept ever pass from my fingers to the screen. However, there are
lesser grades of eggs, related mostly to cleanliness, size, volume of air
cell and quality of albumen. I refer you to a quick reference on the
Georgia Egg Commission, a government situated within the borders of the
Untied States, just so you don't think I invent this stuff (which obviously
I don't).

At any rate, the system you describe is used for milk where I live.
It's never on sale, by law. Big whoop. Still some milk is better
than other brands.

I've hand picked eggs from hen houses, so I know a bad one when I see
it. The eggs are fine, here.

This is the opposite here. Around holidays butter and eggs, flour
and other baking supplies are much cheaper. We stock up at this time,
and freeze what we don't use immediately. Butter is usually
$1.25-1.66/lb during November/December and eggs run about $0.99 a dozen
in the grocery store. At Costco, I buy eggs in a 5 dozen box, because
we go through 10 eggs just for scrambled eggs for the family, and it
works out to $0.87 a dozen. 10 lb sack of flour is $0.99 and the bulk
wheat flour is $0.33/lb.

300% discrepancy. No matter how you slice the cake whole wheat flour

Furthermore, the bulk has to be boxed, which requires periodic thorough
cleaning to prevent pests, so maintenance costs are higher, and, to my
mind, it doesn't matter if 10 elbees of bulk are 3 times more expensive
than 10 elbees of packaged as I have the option of buying only 1 cup of the
bulk, if that's all I need. So I will buy a cup of bulk and save the rest
of the money I would have spent buying a 10 elbee bag to squander on
wargames :-) Not so with the packaged (obviously). So bulk can save you
money in the long run if you rarely use flour.

It isn't all about cheapitudinousness. Sometimes it's about convenience,
or as they said in Dogpatch: Cornveenience.

Around here (Pittsburgh) eggs are usually on
sale at least at some of the store for the
holidays - especially T-day, Xmas,and Easter.

I also noticed that the prices were high. I always
buy large eggs and they're usually around $.90 but
they were over a dollar recently except at the store
that had them on sale.

Actually I was looking for something along the line of
'The Church of the Fercocken Obsenity'

The real reason is the increased demand for high-protein, low-carb foods. Eggs
producers have realized that they can charge more and it won't affect sales.
The same reason is behind the price increase in meats.
