I even liked Ina after I saw her profile, and I'm not a big fan of hers. I'm from Oregon, so I don't think the fan bases are all that regional. I can't stand the ones from California, except Giada. I can tolerate the down home, country people much more than the pretentious, "I'm rich and you're not" preppy personalities anyday. |

Not his mannerisms as such, as he's a little odd, but the nerd in me likes the science of cooking he throws out on Good Eats. I used to enjoy Jamie Oliver's show because he went for simplicity and made some things that have turned out well for me. I can even stomach Emeril every once in a while if he's doing a theme of something I enjoy. I'm with you on Rachel (sp) - she's great until she starts speaking. She seems to be the new darling of the Network, so we're sure to see more of her. In terms of cooking shows outside FTV, I used to watch the Frugal Gourmet on PBS, along with Martin Yan and Justin Wilson. I also like Rick Bayless and watch him when I can, and Stephen Pyles had a good PBS show for a while. I also enjoyed Top Chef because I thought there were some really creative ideas on there. And, sadly, I admit I watched Hell's Kitchen for the train-wreck factor. -Jeff |

You're probably right. Still, I choose to isolate all that and just focus on the part where Bobby Flay loses, because it makes me smile in a sort of sadistic way. |

And her cooking is not the type of southern cooking I grew up with in Viriginia. Granted, they are to very different southern states, but I tend to lean towards the southern cooking of that Grande Dame of Southern Cooking, Edna Lewis. She was a Virginian too... And her cooking stands the test of time, and I not sure Paula's does. Paula seems too gimmicky to me..and she tends to use more convenience foods than I like. Edna Lewis's food was not incredibly high fat, or full of convenience foods....just very good southern cooking that oftentimes had a touch of elegance to it. Get the book she co-authored with a Georgian chef, Scott Peacock: The Gift of Southern Cooking. It will open your eyes. Christine |

I noticed something about that last week. Hopefully they chose some people who can actually cook and are creative rather than just people who would be good reality show fuel. The first season had both, which was interesting. In the cooking reality-show thing, I like Top Chef the best because (unless I'm just totally getting fooled), it seems the most 'real'. That is, in the challenges they get only the resources allowed and the time allotted without prep. I love Iron Chef, but word is they had an idea of a few things the theme might be beforehand and could prepare, plus they have sous chefs everywhere. Hell's Kitchen had a lot of the unexpected thrown at them too, but it focused too much for my taste on running the kitchen than the actual food. -Jeff |

Such wonderful, simple, classic southern food in all it's glory. Not for nothing was she considered the Grande Doyenne of Southern cooking. Christine |

Let me rephrase, then: I don't like Bobby Flay. In watching his travelogue shows briefly (as well as his studio show before that years ago, as well as Iron Chef, etc) I believe he comes across as arrogant and condescending. I cannot cite specifics, because I have not committed them to memory, but that is my general impression. |
